Cambodia - So Many Memories - Just A Few Words

During the visit to Cambodia, the experiences were jammed pack during the 8 day Global Sage Summit. Our tour guide, Mr V prides himself on providing authentic khmer experiences and goes to extremes to share the essence of the Khmer, the flavors of Khmer cooking including tarantula's , and the sites and history of the Khmer people.

From waking up at 430am to visit Angkor Wat, to giving much needed blood to the local blood bank, to visiting our orphanage, to traversing a bamboo bridge to play football with the local kids, to boating to Rabbit Island, to dining at a wide range of local eateries, the week in Cambodia, truly allowed us to eat local, sing local, and party local with Mr V and the Khmer people.

For many first time visitors to Cambodia, the attraction and horror of the genocide of the Pol Pot regime rings loud and can trigger many emotions including sadness, terror, and anger and visits to the Killing Fields and the S 21 Prison remain worthwhile and must see locations during a Cambodia visit. In this trip to Cambodia, my fifth, I reflected on the past regimes and found myself rather pensive and somewhat reflective with the feeling that in the almost 40 years since the regime of 1974-1979, that we as a human species have not really evolved very much if one considers the atrocities and power struggles that have occurred in Liberia, Angola, the former Yugoslavia, and
Iraq. Greed and power continue to be formidable foes for unconditional love, respect, and gratitude.

With Mr V , a 33 year old Khmer entrepreneur as our guide, I, as a visitor to Cambodia did find some sense of the "why" from the terror and horror of the past as Mr V's sense of humanity, authenticity, humor, and respect for life shone brightly during our journey of Cambodia. What was your most memorable location on the trip?

Walking along the Mekong at Kampong Chan.

It reminded me of the expression about how beautiful places use to be twenty five years ago. Kampong Cham today has the natural beauty and rustic feel that demonstrates " that yearning and love of a long ago feeling" in the present.

What was best food food you ate?

Crispy rice with eggplant was divine

We had this dish twice during the trip , both times at wonderful restaurants that train local street kids in the food and beverage industry. The dining experience brought be back to remember as a child in Canada frequently battling with my father and sister for the crispy rice at the bottom of the rice pot. My mom would scoop out the crispy rice and the three of would battle for it. In Cambodia, the crispy rice was thicker, crispier, and served in an abundant portion. It was truly delicious.

What were top three highlights?

Chairman of Rock Your Life Mike Handcock and I prepared twelve months for the Spirit of the Incas Soul Journey and at the last minute, we put our scripts aside, we shifted our planned ceremonies, and we embraced the outline of James Redfield’s Celestine Prophecy to be our companion, our chosen guardian and our trusted guide that we would walk with during the Soul Journey in Peru and Bolivia.

As leaders of a company that emphasizes travel as a “profound life experience”, over the past four years, Mike and I have co-lead trips to Egypt, Mexico, Asia, (next year is to the Cradle of Humanity South Africa), it was a responsibility that Mike and I relish and the amazing group of “spirited entrepreneurs“ from 7 countries embraced the principles and teachings of the Celestine Prophecy. As part of your personal development, spiritual awakening, and joyful living, I am happy to invite you to review the prophecy with us utilizing the context that Mike and I shared with our group in Peru and Bolivia in 2011.

Individually Redfield’s best selling book , originally written in 1993, had a profound impact on both Mike and I. For Mike, it was one of his favorite books on spirituality during his days heading up an insurance company in New Zealand and for me, it was the Celestine Guidebook that allowed me to clear years and years of blockages with my father, Harvey, that led to a energetic clearing and the rebirth of a relationship with my Dad that has been filled with acceptance, love, and respect. The Celestine Guidebook helped me change my life.

Background
Peru and Bolivia are mystical places, with the inheritance of the Inca and pre-Inca cultures, and their amazing architecture. It is the home of the Q’ero shaman who live north of 15,000 ft. These wise people are one of our links to our collective heritage as indigenous souls. They are the keepers of a wisdom that only now is able to be brought forth and utilized to help our planet and consciousness evolve to a new awareness and harmony.

Our Soul Journey participants traveled from Australia, Singapore, New Zealand, Indonesia, Canada, China, and South Africa to participate in learn about the Spirit of the Inca’s. While we took preparation to engage the altitude sickness, everyone of us were hit with varying degrees of nausea, head aches, vomiting and diarrhea. The difficulties experienced with breathing led to a greater awareness, appreciation and respect for “breathing” and was a key distinction collectively for the group and provided a lovely context for the sacredness of “breath” in our life and for the soul journey.

1. Meaningful coincidences.
On Day One, we shared the concept of “meaningful coincidences” and planted the seed that would grow throughout the trip for many of the participants.

Meaning coincidences can be numbers as signs such as observing 11-11 that our dear friend Hiliary Carter shared with us in her book the 11-11 Code, coincidences of missing flights and thereby starting remarkable new friendships appeared for two of our participants , one from South Africa and one from Australia and then there was the concept of doubles of people that we know as dopplegangers that may have remarkable messages for us.

Sahaja from Australia experienced a “doppleganger” as she was seeking to find a group of us in the city square one evening, noticed a doppleganger of me in the street and within 90 seconds found our group in a salsa dance club.

Observing meaningful coincidences in our life is a great starting point to waking up, becoming more aware, and heightening curiosity. Observe your meaningful coincidences for the next nine days, journal them, embrace them, and notice how your experience of life shifts.

2. Historical Perspective

The concept of historical perspective was explained differently by Mike and I. From Mike’s perspective, he loved to shared the concept of History as being ‘his-story’ or his spin on the event. Much of history today has been told or detailed from the perspective of the victor , especially in the situation of a conquest or victory in a war.

It is very useful to have this information that “his story” comes into many interpretations of past experiences , it is also important to be aware that “our history” also plays a huge role in our willingness and ability to discern the truth or falsity in situations.

Through increased personal awareness of our own historical perspectives, social upbringings, parentage, life experiences, we have developed an unique, though greatly skewed perspective of what is “right and wrong” that creates filters and models of the world that may or may serve our evolution and spiritual growth.
 What we hold on to most dearly, whether beliefs, values, or convictions from our historical perspective, can often be the elements that provide the greatest blockages, stoppages, and hurdles for us to connect with mother earth, embrace the mysteries of the cosmos, and gain a greater respect and understanding of many of the energies and unseen marvel of the ether.

3. Subtle Energy

Observing, noticing, feeling, experiencing, smelling, sensing, seeing energy is a magnificent way to heighten awareness, increase vitality, and greatly enhance the life experience.

A mental shift about all objects can greatly enhance one’s experience with all objects. The ancients believe that all objects transmit energy. Today quantum physics has validated the claims that all objects even inanimate objects such as table , chairs, and rocks are moving and can transit energy.

For many of our group, it was shift in their beliefs about energy and willingness to explore the possibilities to experience energy differently that led to some of the most remarkable experiences. The ancients call rocks, rock people, call earth, mother earth, and call sun , father sun. The personalization or respect for energy all around us lead to people seeing auras, feeling the energy of rocks, experiencing past lives, and feeling the various portals, vortices, and sacred spots throughout the Spirit of the Incas Tour.

4. Competition for energy

In what areas of your life are you competing, winning or losing for energy? What relationships are nurturing, supportive and positive and which ones are negative, energy draining or even energy sucking?

On Day 4 , we shared the concept of competition for energy and found that the universe conspired to allow the explanation to come to life for the participants. As Mike and I started our presentation at the foot of Macchu Picchu, the 11 am train decided to arrive as we commenced our session on competition for energy. In unison, Mike and I just looked at each and started to laugh, appreciating the divinity in the situation and the subtle beauty in the meaningful coincidence.

In the human experience, we often find ourselves in a competition for energy. The major drama’s that arise in human dynamics tend to play out in four major dramas in order to steal energy from others. We interrogate people, intimidate people, are aloof or tell ourselves ‘poor me’ stories. These drama’s have been passed down through the generations and can provide some key rational and measurable distinction and insights that can lead to a completion of the energetic cycle and possibly a spiritual awakening.

5. Energy is abundant.

Day 5 saw the group start the morning with a tour of an orchid garden, experience a renewed sense of respect and connection with nature, and an opportunity to experience a quantum leap into newly defined relationship with the energy of the cosmos. The insight is “energy is abundant” and the participants were acquainted with the beauty and energy of grass, plants, nature medicines, flowers, insects, natural recycling, rain, sun, wind, laughter, silence, and breath.

Discover how to shift from competition for energy to nurturing and embracing the abundance of energy and the vibrational frequency of your life with shift. Walk in nature, swim in the ocean, sing with the birds, dance in the wind, play with an pet, by applying focusing on energy abundance, you will be notice it, identify it, and be able to tap into it, immediately. The beauty and energies around Macchu Picchu proved this to our group, as despite hours of climbing at high altitudes, the evening sharing session was lively, energetic, and encompassed the practicalities of tapping into the 5th insight “energy is abundant”

6. Getting Clear

On Day 6th, we shared the insight called “getting clear” which is about cutting the white noise or nonsense and simply getting clear about the intention, the desired outcome, or the dream state. Letting go of the drama’s , letting go of the battle for energy, and letting go of the “small me” behaviors, and stepping into your divinity is the theoretical approach to getting clear.

Focus on Joy, Gratitude, Love and Light and see how clarity becomes a beacon for your transformation. At the sacred site of Ollymantambo, Gillian focus of love and light led to her embracing her divine self and cellular memories of being at this site in a past life and she gracefully and youthfully danced and literally flew up and down the stairs of the temple , while the rest of struggled to go up and down the temple’s narrow steps.

Gillian let go of her heaviness and poor me dramas embraced her greatness and ultimately directed the group to a sacred ceremony location for a prayer ceremony to Patchamama and revealed to us an inter-dimensional portal for us all to experience and connect to.

Once clear, we can be present, and once present, we can trust ourself and the divine nature to be our true divine self.

7. Intuition

Day 7 was about Intuition and trusting what our intuition is guiding us to explore, experience and express. The morning started early as the sunrise was called for 523 am. The group gathered at 515am after Mike and I intuited the sunrise ceremony in Puno would be conducted by the lake at a floating wharf.

The morning sun was respectfully greeted with by a choir of “aum meditative tones” and accompanied by a request for Father Sun’s assistance in elevating our intuitive vibration by aiding and assisting in the release of past negative energies or in the burning off of any non-serving beliefs, or in the transformation of disempowering obstructions into empowering resources of the light.

The sacred sunrise ceremony led to some profound experiences of release, rejoice and renewal. At least three members of the group reconnected to their patchamama roots, two members connected to their Father Sun Rainbow Light guardians, and the remainder of the group allowed the transmutation of lower frequency limiting beliefs into higher frequency experiences of forgiveness, gratitude and love. Explore your intuition over the next nine days and trust that you are an intuitive being.

8. Relating to Others

Day 8 the group was offered the opportunity to explore their relationship with the 7 deadly sins of envy, gluttony, greed, sloth, anger, pride, and lust, and to examine patterns of communication, connection and relating to themselves and to others.

Addiction to other human beings was one of Mike’s favorite areas of exploration and he shared how addiction or clinginess can lead to a caustic relationship and highlighted that most people do go through at least one of these experiences during their life time. Suggestion is to let go of such relationships and move to a higher vibration of service, joy, and love.

The Day of Relating to Others was highlighted by a new and bright relationship with the people of the floating islands of Lake Titicaca. The local Armana tribes of Lake Titicaca have been living for hundreds of years on their reed islands and demonstrated an appreciation, gratitude and love of humanity and for us as people who have traveled from vast places to meet, greet , and connect with them. The openness, respect, and joy experienced with the Armana people was elevated when they combined their hospitality with some brilliant humor through song as they sang twinkle twinkle little star on our departure and finished up their performance with the famous phrase hasta la vista baby.

9. Conscious Evolution

Day 9 was about the consciousness evolution that is occurring on the planet at this time. Since the harmonic convergence in 1987, human beings around the world have been waking up to the importance that recognition, respect, responsibility are becoming at the forefront of us surviving as a species.

Respect for Mother Earth, Father Sun, and all species on the planet is becoming an urgent and important message and day by day more people on the planet are awakening to the call to change our unsustainable and unproductive ways.

Connect, collaborate, and co-create the new processes and procedure for the future. Many of the ways forward are actually looking at the ways of the past. Much is to be learned from the ancients, and much is to be learned by looking back into our history. The ancients share that our future is actually our past and perhaps the ways of the ancestors is the way forward. A respect for Mother Earth, a respect for the environment, and a respect for humanity, all colors, all races, all creeds, living symbiotically, living collaboratively.

There is a tenth insight, and thats all about holding the vision.

25 Years of Sushi At Narita Airport

Sushi at Narita

One of my favorite japan experiences since first visiting japan in 1986 is to visit the Sushi counter at terminal two at Narita International airport. Over the years, i have habitually enjoyed a visit to have a sayonara sushi, an irrasshai sushi or simply engage in some “bits and bobs” of sushi and engage in some light nihongo prior a flight or between flights on a lay over.

Today , after a extreme odyssey from La Paz Bolivia via Lima Peru and Houston Texas, it dawned on me how much personal communication has changed since the mid 1980’s. Back then a seat a sushi bar, usually meant a conversation with the sushi chef, a chat with the person next to me at the sushi bar or at least some idle banter with the waitress.

Despite a pleasant excitement about some delicious sushi next to Gate #30 at Narita Terminal Two, such as some of my personal favorites toro, ikura, uni and anago, i was somewhat disappointed that people around me were all to engaged with their mobile devices rather than be interested to endeavor upon some simple conversation.

Has the world changed that much over the past fifteen years, that an engaging conversation over some yummy sushi has somewhat disappeared.

Let’s hope not and let’s hope that today’s isolated occasion is simply an exception and that the old art of engaging conversation around the sushi counter does still exist as we move into the auspices year of 2012 --- the supposed end of the world that we know!

Just saw "Never Say Never" with my ten year old justin - he found it too long and a little boring as he just wanted to see and hear the title song.

I found the documentary enjoyable, insightful, and emotional at times.

My Justin hit me a few times as my tears leaked out a few times, especially in the times when JB was interacted with his grandparents and his father.

For business leaders, this is a terrific example of what makes an amazing business success:

Singapore is open for business, buyouts, MBO’s, and international transactions. Judging by recent highlights in the Straits Times of Singapore, Singapore wants the world to know that it is open for business and wants to be viewed as a key business and incubator destination and home grown business hub for small, medium, and large businesses.

With the launch of two six billion projects in 2010, the Marina Sands and the Sentosa Resort, Singapore GDP’s soared to a “managed high single digit growth” in 2010, following a whopping 18.6% GDP growth in the first six months of 2010.

Highlighted in the local Singapore Straits Times Newspapers over the past two weeks, these three deals support the thesis that Singapore is a great place for entrepreneurs buoyed by a transparent business reporting requirements, strong infrastructure, and a healthy employee-government -employer dynamic working environment

Brandtology - estimated S$ 12 - 15 million

SYDNEY-based Media Monitors has acquired a majority stake in Singapore-based social media measurement company Brandtology. Brandtology was launched in 2008 and experienced fast growth with staff in 15 countries across Asia-Pacific, Europe and North America and processing over 100 million online conversations per month. Brandtology founder and CEO Eddie Chau said the acquisition would allow the firm to "continue our rapid growth across existing and new markets".

“Brandtology’s business model reflects Media Monitors focus on accuracy, timeliness and deeper insight – all rare commodities in the current world of social media monitoring and analysis." noted the President of Media Monitors.

BeeEconomic - S$24 million

Started in May 2010 by two Australian twenty something entrepreneurs, BeeEconomic was sold to Groupon of the US for 24 million Singapore dollars in November 2010.

Beeconomic an internet group and discounter had been around for just about six months and was started by twenty something siblings, Karl and Christopher Chong.

Thai Express - S$80,000,000

Though the deal was consumated in 2008, Ivan Lee, the founder of restaurant chain Thai Express earned out $80 million from the sale of 70 per cent of his business to Thai-listed food and beverage conglomerate Minor International.

The entrepreneur first started Thai Express with just $300,000 borrowed from friends and family in 2002. From a single restaurant in Holland Village, Mr Lee went on to open more than 90 stores. The first store bankrolled the second one, and the two paid for the next four and so on. Encouraged by the stunning success of the budget Thai eatery chain, he went on to add brands such Xin Wang Hong Kong Cafe and New York New York to the Thai Express stable.

His next venture is based in China and is rumored to be targeting Baidu or Facebook. Though he declined to reveal his new Chinese Internet start-up’s name as he is still sorting out trademark issues but he intends to launch a new social networking site in the next three to four months.

I would like to thank Tamami and her inspiring team for their
hospitality during my trip to Japan. During the trip, the following
principles trickled and reentered into my awareness and i will be
writing more about these topics in the coming months

Some of the topics that I explored included:

Critical Thinking

Met with a leading investment manager (and dear friend) who recently
took over a second tier public company in Japan and his critical
thinking and logical parameters for rational investing is being
challenged as his numbers, analysis, cash flow and probably investment returns
indicate double digit yen returns for investors in the Japanese market, while he is
finding few to no new investors in the Japanese market.

My question with him , what can i do to add value to you, your enterprise, and
assist in creating some attraction for investors into Japan?

His reply - find qualified investors with a five to eight year investment horizon

Consciousness

A beautiful walk in Sendagaya near the Meji Shrine and Meiji skating
rink lead to one of my nicest mornings in Japan. There was
interactions with nature, with people, and with myself that truly made
me feel blessed.

The question i danced with while walking in Sendagaya was "wow, what
is great about life?"

Learning Cycles

It is time to get involved in "learning cycles" . Did you know that
everything that Hitler did was legal , while many things that Thomas
Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin and the founding fathers of the USA were
against the law and they broke rules and laws on a daily basis? What
rules do you need to break as you move to allow yourself to have a new
beginning ?

Or to paraphase Einstein, In what ways can I think like god thinks?

Blame Game

What games are you playing? What excuses are you using? In what ways
is your EGO playing you?

Fear and Love are the two major guiding principles - are you playing
the blame game in your life or are you willing to be guided by love.

Spirit of Enterprise - Lesson 1 Law of Divinity

During my visit to Jakarta, I kindly gestured to a friend "Namaste" and he looked at me somewhat perplexed and asked "what does that mean?"

I shared that it meant "i honor the divine in you", he smiled and replied "namaste"

Following that exchange, I decided to check the meaning of the word and went to the google for a little google word search and came up with the following

Namaste is a Hindi salutation or greeting.

The word Namaste is a combination of the two Sanskrit words: nama, and te. Basically, nama means "to bow" and te means "you."

Interpretation:

The God/Goddess Spirit within me recognizes and honors the God/Goddess Spirit within you.

During my flight today from Singapore to Hong Kong, i was reading some of my old notes and i scribbled, what if i really was divine?

In fact, this topic has been discussed with many of my friends, teachers, and mentors over the past two years and it leads me to explore the following questions

1) what if I were divine? what would my life look like?

2) what would i have to let go , what beliefs would i have to abandon, what would be different in my life , if i was divine?

As a task, an exercise, an experiment, i invite you to explore your relationship with your divinity and simply record your observations, distinctions, and learnings about you and your divinity?

As we move forward with the Law of Divinity, i would invite you to explore you divinity and see where you are currently in relationship to the four levels of the divinely living:
- level 1 - awareness
- level 2 - belief
- level 3 - conviction
- level 4 - mastery

Dear Friends,

During the 11-11 Show with Mike Handcock and special guest Vincent Barra, the Physic's Physic, i was reminded of one of my earlier research projects which lead to the Awareness, Understanding and Making It Happen workbook and audio series.

I have highlighted a small excerpt that made me smile " Anita Leeds suggests (Mar 2005) points out the similarity and potential influence of RH Dave's 'Psychomotor Domain' learning stages model (1970), used in teaching manual skills and part of Bloom's Taxonomy, and which provides an interesting comparison alongside the conscious competence four-stage model: According to Dave's theory, the psychomotor learning domain emphasises physical skills, coordination, and use of the motor-skills. Development of these skills requires practice and is measured in terms of speed, precision, distance, procedures, or techniques in execution. There are five major categories in RH Dave's model, whose five stages, given certain learner attitude and circumstances, could just about be argued overlay the four stages of the conscious competence model:

Imitation: Observes and patterns behavior after someone else. Performance may be of low quality.
Manipulation: Performs skill according to instruction rather than observation.
Develop Precision: Reproduces a skill with accuracy, proportion and exactness; usually performed independently of original source.
Articulation: Combines more than one skill in a sequence, achieving harmony and internal consistency.
Naturalization: Has a high level of performance. Performance becomes automatic. Completes one or more skills with ease. Creativity is based on highly developed skills."

Bangkok - Triggering Duality, Polarity, and Diverse Perspectives

As i sit in Bangkok Airport awaiting my return flight to Singapore, i have some lovely reflective time to remember, review, and rehash some of the highlights, lowlights, and key distinctions from the weekend in Bangkok.

We completed the financial diamond program headed and delivered by co-founder of Ample Wealth Petrus Carstens, who flew in from South Africa for the program , and ably supported by our local general partner Rene Fedderson.

Around twenty people participated on the inaugural diamond session in Thailand and many have stepped up to embrace foundational leadership roles in exploring, sharing and joining the movement of financial literacy, personal empowerment, and aligning individual & organizational spiritual and material goals.

The Triad of Life - Prosperity, Vitality, and Relativity

According to my dear friend Angela, an amazing traditional chinese medical practisioner currently living in New Zealand, we can change and measure the quality of life immediately and one of her favorite tools to assist people consists of understanding the concepts of flow

While she is a flow master of energy and health, in our discussion, we combined her wisdom in health and wellness with some of my tools in coaching and entrepreneurship to develop a coaching tool that can empowering coaches and coachees to gauge, measure and enhance the harmony of one's life.

As both Angela and I agreed that self evaluation supported by outside firm yet flexible accountability coaching can dramatically transform the effectiveness and efficiency of our clients.

In this Triad of Life , we choose to investigate harmony with the three headings of prosperity , vitality, and relativity

Prosperity measures could be cash flow or balance sheet (assets - liabilities) and allows the coachee to give themselves a rating out of ten, with ten absolutely amazing and one or zero be brutal. Picking one prosperity measure at each session, a specific strategy can be develop for the coachee.

Vitality measures could be weight or BMI or physical age or ability to run, walk or bike. Once again, a self rating is important out of ten and the accountability coach may challenge the coachee to get clarity and confidence with the measures as well as working on a step by step approach to bettering their current position.

Relativity measures and investigates the relationships that a coachee has. I love to explore some our worst relationships and see how they are balance or counterbalanced with some amazing or wonderful relationships. Another key relationship is the relationship that an individual has with them self. Pick one relation and develop and heart directed strategy to elevate your rating.

Day 1 - Continual Shift - "Lovin Livin Healthier, Wealthier, Wiser"

Namaste - July 6th - started my next adventure in healthy, wealth and wisdom - hired a fitness and health coach this past weekend to collaborate on a project for the next 3 months.

I have engaged him for 10 days, extendable to 30 days, 45 days, 60 days, and then 90 days. He will collaborate with me in exploring ways and means to live healthier, wealthier and wiser. I started with some the mental preparation last night with some light prayer, meditation and some light self hypnosis.

As part of the project, we will look at collaborating and utliizing technology to see if we can spread a message of "lovin livin - the healthier, wealthier and wiser way"

Today was measurement day - weight, body age, body fat, BMI, waist, and mental state --- step by step!

Going Raw with some sensitivity to cravings, balance, and exercise.

Ex-pastor turns evangelist of wealth
Desire to do more than pray for poor drives him to create wealth foundation

Mr Petrus Carstens assesses his assets, liabilities, cash reserves and cashflow every five years, and works out a target and plan for the next five. So far, he has exceeded each of his five-year goals.

Pray, what could he do to help the poor? Mr Petrus Carstens wanted to make a difference to the lives of ordinary Africans.
For 15 years until 2002, he worked as a pastor in South Africa but could do nothing more than pray for them.
It was only in 2002 that MrCarstens, now 48, realised he could do more if he became a successful investor and created a wealth foundation.
He started reading feverishly on finance. He did well with property investments when South Africa had a real estate boom between 2002 and 2006.
His financial knowledge was boosted when he signed up for wealth coach Robert Kiyosaki's year-long Rich Dad coaching programme in 2006.
'My aim is to accumulate US$100 million (S$137.9 million) in cash and US$350 million in property and other investments, with a passive and portfolio income of US$2 million to US$3 million per month. I want to use this money for economic empowerment programmes in the developing world,' said Mr Carstens.
He aims to set up his wealth foundation in the next five years.
Among his many businesses are a hotel, an upcoming shopping centre and a licence for an organic waste-water purification system.
He also conducts wealth management programmes, under his firm Ample Wealth, for individuals in Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia and Malaysia.
Mr Carstens studied economics for three years before switching to theology. He obtained a theology degree from the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa, in 1989.
He became a pastor in 1987 and, while ministering, obtained a masters in theology from the same university in 1994.
He is married to world champion cyclist Cathy Fair, 47, who runs a physiotherapy practice in South Africa. They have a son, Deon, 18, and a daughter, Margi, 16.
Q: Are you a spender or saver?
I am a saver. My income is from wealth coaching, property development, portfolio investments and passive income. I save about 65 per cent of my income, which is almost always immediately re-invested.
Q: How much do you charge to your credit cards every month?
I charge about US$5,000. But if I am not travelling, I spend less than US$1,000 a month. I settle my credit card payments monthly. I have 10 cards - one for each company. This makes it easy to track what I spend for each company and for me to qualify for tax benefits as well.
I carry very little cash, nothing more than S$500 to S$1,000.
Q: What financial planning have you done for yourself?
I have three trusts, three property companies and 10 other companies. Each firm handles one type of business.
The reason is to ring-fence each business, protect my personal safety net and optimise my tax structure.
To obtain financial leverage (bank borrowings), you need to first have a solid asset base, which also serves as an income stream (rental or yield) as well as capital gains.
Every five years, I write out a five-year personal wealth plan. I assess where I am at in terms of assets, liabilities, cash reserves and cashflow.
I believe you can create wealth only from three foundations - assets, cash and cashflow.
I determine where I am at every five years and work out a plan to get to the next five-year target via any one or all three income streams - active, portfolio and passive.
I have exceeded each of my five-year goals even though at times it did not appear to be heading that way.
I have five investment categories, each with different target returns.
 First is retirement assets - lifelong investments for which I expect 15 per cent to 20 per cent returns per year.
 Second is property - my asset base for which I expect capital gains of 15 per cent to 35 per cent per year.
 Third is speculative assets - investments I buy with a plan to sell in one to six years such as land banking, prime property, stocks, bonds and businesses.
 Fourth is cash-generating assets, such as network-marketing franchises and mines.
 Fifth is my 'play money' which I look to double returns between one and six months.
About 10 per cent of my cash is channelled to venture capital, bridging finance and commodity trading.
Q: What properties do you own?
Back in 2002 to 2006, I was riding the biggest property bubble in the world. South Africa had the fastest- growing middle class. I could get 110 per cent housing loans from banks as they expected property to appreciate. I could refinance twice a year.
Currently, I own two seafront double-storey houses in Hermanus, South Africa, each about 2,200sqft. They were bought in 2007 for 14 million rand (S$2.75 million) each and are rented out. I do not know their current values.
I own part of eight game farms in the Krueger National Park. They are valued at 50 million rand and I have a 50 per cent share.
Together with seven friends, we bought a 3,000 sq ft vacation house on the border of the Krueger National Park. It was bought for less than 3 million rand in 2004. It is currently valued at 8 million rand.
I own 15 apartments in Johannesburg and they are rented out.
I own 30 per cent of a hotel in Hermanus, bought for 12 million rand in 2008.
My partner and I invested 19 million rand in a shopping centre in 2008. The development cost is 100 million rand. It will be operational next year.
Q: Money-wise, what were your growing up years like?
I come from a family of five and I have two younger sisters. My mother was a housewife while my father was a diplomat for the South African government. He never spoke about money or taught us about money. It was a comfortable life and I never had to think about money.
We lived in Nelspruit, close to Krueger Park, in a single-storey brick house with a land area of 19,400 sq ft.
When I started working, I never valued money and never saved. Even as a minister, I could create extra revenue but I either gave it away or lost it. I was trapped in a middle-class mentality. I learnt to respect money only when I realised my life purpose and understood that I could not fulfil that purpose without respecting money.
At that time, I was a minister of 4,500 people but I had a vision of changing the lives of 450,000 people who lived in a culture of poverty.
Q: What is the most extravagant thing you have bought?
Someone owed me US$400,000 and could not pay me. He handed me his brand-new red Ferrari in 2008 as payment. I never drove it. Instead, I sold it for 4 million rand.
Q: What is your retirement plan?
I don't intend to retire. If I only lived for myself I could consider myself financially free. But my work is not done and I want to build a foundation to make a global impact in terms of economic empowerment of the poorest people.
My current fixed expenses are 200,000 rand a month. We donate to charity regularly.
Q: Home is now...
My house in Cape Town. It has a swimming pool and three garages. Its land size is about 10,760 sq ft.
Q: I drive...
A silver Mercedes Diesel. I also own a white Toyota Prado and a yellow BMW motorbike.

Big plans

WORST AND BEST BETS
Q: What has been your worst investment to date?
In 2004, I gave a loan of one million rand (at that time it was just over US$100,000) to my friend - he wanted to start a business. I never got it back. The lesson I learnt was that as a good steward of money, I need to make responsible decisions. By lending it to him, I was not helping him. But if I could have invested it wisely, I would have helped a lot more deserving people. I lost a lot more money later, but it was not as painful as that incident. I don't beat myself up when I lose money as an investor. I have to stay focused on my purpose and passion, and feeling sorry for myself does not serve anyone, or God.
Q: And your best investment?
While I have made millions from various investments, the best so far is an environmentally friendly organic waste-water purification system which also fulfils a higher social purpose. We have owned the Southern Africa licence since end-2007, and have sold licences to various countries. It fulfils many of my aspirations at the same time as it connects everything I want to do - it's green, organic, humanitarian and provides a stream of income. The system can be used for commercial, industrial and residential waste.

Risk - Return Dynamics

Is there really a risk vrs return relationship in investing? In discussion with one of my investor friends, he mentioned that he is investing in projects with a hurdle investment rate of 100% for one year

What would be your response?

In reviewing my reaction, i noted a certain level of doubt and suspicion. 100% for 1 year suggests to me , that the investment will either deliver 100% or 0%

The next thought was to work out some probabilities to be able to arrive at an expected value.

At a casino , one of the best bets is for even/odd or red/black at the roulette table ( http://wizardofodds.com/roulette) and it delivers a payback of 43.7

The payback formula would be 100 X 43.7% = 43.7$ for a 100 bet

What are the odds that my investor friend will get 100% return on his property? If it is higher than 43.7% he is better off investing in the property than the casino bet. If it is lower that 43.7% , he would be statistically better off visiting the casino and make a bet.

In the field of investing, one must view the investment from a number of perspectives:

-expected payout
-probability of payout
-stream of payments
-experience of counterparties

During our work with Ample Works, we look at due diligence a key component of deriving and structuring deals that mitigate risk and look to optimize returns, either by accelerating payback via dividends or interim interest payments or collateralizing the exposure with assets, surity or personal endorsements.

As you move forward with your investments, consider your expected rate of return and run some scenarios to allow you to gain some additional insights, distinctions, and parameters as you develop your investment criteria and elevate your astute investor mindset.

Lessons from the USA - Singapore Business Leader Ron Sim

To solve any problem, here are three questions to ask yourself:

First, what could I do? Second, what could I read? And third, who could I ask?

A wonderful opportunity to receive insights and distinctions from one of Singapore's successful business builders, Ron Sim. Ron and his team have built OSIM over the past thirty years into one of the premier lifestyle companies in Asia.

Ron has a down to earth, step by step approach to business and to presenting his experiences in building OSIM, in his experiences in the USA and his pragmatic approach to expanding the business in 2010.

I especially liked his review of the past thirty years and how he drew the "big lessons" from each of the decades.

In the 1980's he learned that to survive he would have to shift from being a trader to a builder and OSIM took the approach of expanding the business in HK, Taiwan, Singapore and Malaysia which gave him a market of about 60 million people and allowed him to move beyond the borders of Singapore.

In the 1997 crisis, he discovered the importance of "stay focused, stay competitive" and he found his business actually improved after the Asian crisis.

In the latest financial crisis, it appeared that Ron is still processing some of the lessons from the experience though he did repeat at least three times in his presentation that he "cannot depend on banks". He shared some examples of being "screwed" and shared that one bank almost brought his enterprise down and that fully secured lending is one of the only ways that bank's operate during financial instability.

Ron's biggest learnings from the USA were shared in a short, succinct, and superficial manner, from what i heard, I gleaned the following key points and comparisons with his Asia experience.

1) USA wealth creation is based on financial leverage , financial engineering, and accounting, especially with "EBITDA" vrs Asia where you can still build businesses, build retail and build a brand

2) USA must practice "push back" management vrs Asia where he is looking to bring harmony into the enterpries

3) in USA need to cut people who are not aligning, not productive and not delivering vrs Asia where OSIM has built, nurtured and developed a core team that have been with him for years

As for Ron's management philosophy, he shared the following headings and I have a feeling that he could talk about each for hours. The What he talked about was the purchase of Brookstores in the USA>

In buying a company, Sim reiterated that one must be clear about the OBJECTIVES, the CORE Competences, and the Competitive Advantage. For OSIM, the firm is innovative, competitive, and effective. The "why did they buy" in the USA was clear to the management team though the core competences of executing the strategy appeared to have let them down.

One the top lessons that Sim discovered over the past decade was the importance of CONTROL, ALIGNMENT of INTERESTS and Managing Differences. The control structure in the USA was shared, consensus, and from his sharing it appeared that it was NOT optimal for Sim's preferred operating style.

The last part of Sim's presentation was some points on CULTURE, POLICY, and STRATEGY. He highlighted that his interest is now primarily on expansion in China, with over ten a month invested in China. He has written down the USA investment and will allow it to grow organically. Big culture gaps between the USA and Singapore was stressed by Sim and if his actions are aligned with his beliefs, he is much more in his flow with control of his destiny in Asia and specifically China.

On copyright issues in China, OSIM is moving forward with the "innovate, compete, and be effective" motto and are excited about the possibilities of business in China. Copies or not, OSIM is keen to expand in China, and Sim has plan for the business for the top 25 cities in China presently and the next 25 cities in the not too distant future.

A superb evening with one of Singapore's business builders. For business builders, the Ron Sim approach to business provides a proven blueprint, laced with wisdom, experience, and integrity.

For get rich quick entrepreneurs, the USA & the UK is still calling as financial leverage, financial engineering and the amazing EBITA game can still be played if you are willing and wanting to play that game.

Universal Studios Singapore - Soft Launch

Universal Studios Singapore (“USS”)

Accompanied by my 9 year old son Justin, we embarked our adventure of Universal Studios Singapore.

The entry was bumpy as we called ahead and the telephone operator mentioned that all tickets had been sold for Sunday March 28th. For some reason, we still choose to check out the grounds for ourselves and when we arrived at the ticket area, all of the booths were open and willing to sell us tickets. I asked the youthful ticketing lady about the confusion, she smiled, apologized, mentioned that it was a “soft launch” for the theme park. I smiled back and decided to do a little note on 5 great things and 5 not so great things about the USS Launch.

Top Five Memories

5) Attitude of the staff was excellent, they were working hard on being friendly, outgoing, and enthusiastic. While it was no natural, they did do there best with the smiles, the greetings, and service focus. about being sold outMonday the day.

4) Line Ups - the longest queue was 40 minutes, while all the other lines were less than 10 minutes. I have a feeling that was because it was the “soft launch” though we did enjoy the rapid queue time.

3) Cleanliness - the grounds were clean, tidy, and welcoming.

2) Food selection - great variation in food though some of the pricing was scary - S$6.50 for a small box of popcorn - ouch!

1) 4D Movie - our highlight was the 4D movie, it was fun, engaging, and had us giggling about the experience for the whole day.

ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENTS

5) Mix up with a phone messaging - when we called the grounds in the morning they told me that tickets were sold out but we decided to check it out and were surprise (and happy) to see that they were selling tickets at the door and we were on our way.

4) Staff appeared to have a difficult time managing the express ticket clients - on three occasions express clients were given the run around or steered in the wrong direction

3) The “Line strategies” on a few rides seemed very confusing, especially on the Lost World, where the attendant moved deep into the line to ask for any two people to jump the queue and led them through the queue for their seat at the back of the buggy. It seemed very peculiar and seemed to trigger some upset in a few people - not a great system when the lines are long and people are hot and sticky.

2) Last minute shut down of rides was irritating though understanding as safety is first. The prime ride was closed the day we attended.

1) Big Big Mistake is the line strategy at the food pavilion. Chicken rice line was four times longer than the noodles and 6 times longer than Malay food. It was confusing and could really upset people, especially with hungry people and people appearing to be jumping the food queue.

Overall, we had a great time. We will go back and in fact Justin will likely be tour guided a group of relatives next month.

Teenager Tales - The Amazing Singapore Garage Sale

Last month, my 16 year old nephew asked if he could visit from Canada for some quality time with his Uncle Dave.

Two weeks ago, we decided to work on a project along with my nine year old, the project a Garage Sale on Sun Aug 30 - so we planned the signs, the flyers, the products, the lemonade stand, the marketing, distribution and layout of the space. This week we started the implementation and I must admit, it has been a wonderful stretch.

Working with a 16 yr old is amazing, especially my nephew as he does operate on a different software, hardware and communication paradigm than his Uncle Dave. I introduced him to LOVE LANGUAGES by Gary Chapman, and we were not surprised to find out that his love languages are quality time and acts of service. As a supporter profile, he is keenly interested to be with people, support them and be part of the team.

Today i came up with the APE Model -- awareness, presence, and enthusiasm - as i chose to catch myself at least 10 times, interrupt my natural tendency to be a big APE where I wanted to lecture him, tell him how i did it when i was 16 years old, and make HIM WRONG -- great lessons from my nephew, blessed indigo being, that he is!

Last night, i shared with him a little dvd on indigo children and he found it curious and fascinating. Today, he asked about aura's, intuition, and commented that he has never healed anyone. I smiled and reflected that from my perspective he has been healing, guiding, and serving people, especially his immediate family since he arrived on the planet in 1992. He smiled, shook his head, and went back to finish his final plate of sushi.

Reflecting on the time with Alex, with hand on heart, my feeling is Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

Influence of the Moon - Perspectives

Greetings - i just completed a pleasant bike ride at 5 am this morning and as i cycled, i noticed the brightness of the star, so much so, that my bike ride was interrupted by a overwhelming urge to meditate and commune with the stars, especially since my pal the moon was no where to been seen this morning.

So, at 555am this morning, i experienced a lovely connection with the various stars and it led me to some healthy curiosity about the moon cycles.

A little google search when i arrived back home from the ride and later and i came upon a varying degree of opinions about the effects from the moon - one discusses the moon and it effects and one a scientific paper that debunks any influence of the moon

Overview for Aug 2009: Jupiter, transitioning retrograde into Capricorn,
brings to an end the three month 'vacation' people took from the harsh realities of the economic down turn. A much more realistic perspective will prevail, with impact seen at the malls and back to school shopping - which means savings will increase and focus will be on working hard, rather than consumption. People may be seen to be a bit more stressed in the second half, leading to a few more differences of opinion than usual. President Obama will have a window of opportunity to push through his proposals between August 16th and October 5th - beyond which he will come across increasing opposition until next summer.

Back to Land and some time to process and integrate the voyage to Alaska with some of the world's premier energy workers from the Hay House Publications team.
I am thrilled to be sitting in my hotel room in Seattle, getting ready to board my flights back to Singapore, and allowing myself some valuable time to review the week, high light some of my key learnings and distinctions and set some intention, initiatives, plans to integrate some of the teachings into my daily life in a loving, caring, and serving manner. I had a wonderful time on the cruise, accompanied by my brother Mike Handcock, and in the presence of the greatness of ten of the leading published light workers on the planet, about 250 aspiring writers, and approximately 1500 evolving and shining spirits consisting of amazing Holland America crew, participants of the I CAN DO IT cruise and the Hay House staff.
I participated on the YOU CAN HEAL YOUR LIFE track and had the honor of attending keynote presentations and learning from the following best selling authors. Some of the my key distinctions are recorded below. At the end of this note, I will also share what award that Mike won for his contribution and support at the week long event.

Key Learnings from the Platform

Louise Hay
The Grand Dame of personal development and the founder of Hay House Group of Companies launched the "You Can Heal Your Life" program with elegant and grace. In her heartfelt welcome, Louise shared her heart felt appreciation and gratitude to the hundred plus audience aboard the Holland America Line's cruise to Alaska. I was moved with her sincerity, poise and presence. At 80++, Louise Hay is inspiring, gorgeous and a shining light in the ascension movement that is currently transforming the planet.
Memorable Moment
Arriving for Louise's keynote the first keynote of the program and "coincidentally" sitting right behind her. And then having the opportunity to thank her and get a picture with her.

What are your plans for China and India and other non english speaking countries?

Caroline Myss
Hard hitting, direct, and challenging, Caroline Myss does not mixed or mince her words. Article, clear and concise in her presentation, I found Caroline's keynote engaging and highly perscriptive. I love her approach to chakra energetics (base, sacral solar plexis, heart, throat, third eye, and crown) and have found her research and sharing insightful, especially her personal stories and ability to use the abrasive approach to "awaken" or "shift" participants. The use of the 7 Deadly Sins as a metaphor for the dark side of each chakra was innovative and definitely triggered some conversation, debate, and discussion for me with other participants on the workshop.
Memorable Moment
Meeting Caroline at the Crow's Nest, the adopted home of Mike and I for the I CAN DO IT at Sea Cruise, and getting tongue tied while sharing a story to Caroline and her friends. Not my greatest moment, though a memorable moment. Key learning is breath, smile, and ask questions vrs try to impress, tell person stories, and speak too quickly. Thank you for the lesson.
One the bright side. Mike and I did make several great friends at the Crow's Nest including the bar crew, the music crew and for Mike the clean up crew. In fact, Mike was the winner the most generous drinking at the Club and ran up a four figure bar bill.

Caroline, does anyone intimidate you? Or do you get nervous? And what advice would you give people who get intimated or nervous in front of others, especially during first meetings?

Dr Brian Weiss
Brian's academic and professional credentials are amazing - bachelors, masters, doctorates, head of the Psychiatric departments at Universities and nationally in the United States. On paper Brian has turbo charged credentials and a resume that is awe inspiring. In person, Brian has a demeanor, a presence, and a voice that is welcoming, comforting, and hypnotically awe inspiring. In his keynote, Brian displayed a lovely sense of humor, often joking about his "high energy" approach and respectfully moved the group through a series of regressions in our early childhood, into our womb experiences and then into a past life regression. Brian demonstrated the process with professionalism, respect and care, and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
For the child experience, I went back to a joyful experience as a young ice hockey player participating in a tournament in North Bay Ontario. As a fetus, vibrational memories suggested some the angst and challenges that my mother experienced, especially with my father and his difficulties in shifting from a teenager to a responsible father. The final regression I went back to a specific scene, my funeral in Ireland in 1737. I was a mother of three young children, and had just passed over to the other side and I was able to notice some key friends, associates, and family members from this life time in that time.

From my brief encounters, Brian Weiss is Brian Weiss on or off the platform. I met him a number of times around the ship and each time I found him cordial, unassuming, and pleasantly present.

Brian, what are you currently doing in your life that is stretching you beyond your comfort zone?

Iyanla Vanzant
I loved the dance of Iyania. Eloquence and grace with power and force - her talent is sharing her personal story with enthusiasm, humor, and compassion as it gives her and the audience the opportunity to dance, laugh, and feel the power of the holy spirit.
Ivania is blessed with a magnificent, hearty, blessed laugh, and an infectious smile that places the audience into a warm, welcoming, hypnotic state. She expresses humanity with the insights and distinctions of a person who has moved through a challenging and hard life. I enjoyed her presentation as her everyday, every minute approach to spirituality is refreshing, sincere, and inspiring.
Throughout her presentation, she demonstrates how she invites spirit into her beingness and works with spirit to shine brightly in her life, especially in times of her hardships, heartbreaks, and humiliating experiences that has allowed her to be the person she is and is being on a daily basis.
Memorable Moments
Accompanying Iyania and her pal Shishilla (aka Lynda) on the whale watching tour in Juneau. We had a lovely time to chat and I loved being in their space. Two friends, enjoying the time together and apart and being their for each other. We were blessed with a hump back whales, full breach less than 50 metres from our boat. A blessed moment for all those who witnessed it, even the Captain was amazed with the magic moment. As for me, I was below deck nursing my sea sickness and enjoying the sounds of music.

Love and light to you, your spirit and your hip. Thank you for working through the pain. If i had one question today, it would be what divine messages are you getting regarding your health and well being? If you are open to alternative methods, i would love to introduce to you to Angela Zhang, a former Chinese army medical professional currently living and changing lives in New Zealand. She is brilliant, dynamic, and fully committed to spreading the effectiveness and efficient methods of naturally healing that utilizes the wisdom and practices of ancient and traditional Chinese Medicine. Dr Wayne Dyer
The Senior Statesman of Personal Development has invested the past 40 years working on himself and sharing his learning with millions of people around the world. What impressed me was that his curiosity remains vibrant and his actions are inspiring. In the past year, as he has moved into his ninth seven year cycle, he has chosen to reengineer his body by letting go of alcohol and has taken up an intensive learning of the ICHING from China.
He shared his approach to learning, his sacred space, his personal stories about Deepak Chopra, Michael Jackson, and living in Maui, his most recent discoveries, insights and distinctions about Eastern Philosophy, and most of all he shared his family with the participants of the cruise. We had an opportunity to dance with his family, gamble with them, sing with them, travel with them, and for this I would like to thank Wayne and his family for joining us on the cruise to Alaska. It was fantastic and so are you.
Yet, after all that, I still heard some people complaining about Wayne Dyer, not prepared, no new information, only interested in his personal stories. WOW!! As a speaker, author, fellow air breathing human being, what a re-learning for me. No matter what one does, one can not please all the people all the time. In the past six months, a statistic of 1/3 will love you, 1/3 will hate you , and 1/3 wont care has entered my world. For Wayne's world, it is more like less that 1% will not like his material, yet when you have reached more that 50 million people, it still means 500,000 might have some unpleasant things to say.
To add to Wayne's experience, towards the last 30 minutes of his 2 hour keynote, a participant of the cruise, bless her soul, ran into the Ballroom, ran to the front of the stage and announced the Glacier, the Glacier, everyone come now, we are at the glacier." A few folks immediately left their seats, and headed towards the exits, and Wayne obviously surprised and shaken, smiled, breathed, cracked a little ice hockey humor, and continued with the show. A moment he will not likely forget, though a moment that once again demonstrated his power of presence, being in the now, and professionalism. I shook my head and smiled - good show Wayne, good show!

I enjoyed Wayne's keynote, it was professional, it was relevant, and it was real. I especially loved his willingness to support his daughter and I did feel that her song to him was amazing. Imagine daughter singing to Dad and acknowledging with all of her heart, acknowledging him with her spirit, and acknowledging him with her gift from spirit - her voice! My tear ducts filled and felt that it was truly a magical moment.

Sonia Choquette
What would you get if you crossed the female energy of Xena the Warrior Princess, the elegance and grace of Julie Andrews in the Sound of Music, with the wisdom and insight of Quanyin and you wrapped it all up and placed it into a red pokka-dot dress slipped on some lovely red Ferragamo high heels?
Close your yes, say "Abaracadabara" and out would pop Sonia Choquette, on stage at the I CAN DO IT AT SEA Hay House Speakers Workshop on Healing.
Sonia's presentation was outstanding, The presentation was challenging and respectful yet encouraged all of the participant to trust her process and be willing to stretch beyond current comfort zones.
By asking us to close our workbooks, not to take notes, and by calling us, the participants, "peeps", Sonia immediately triggered some of my personal buttons such as "I love to take notes", "my notes are important" and "who you calling peeps?" and I almost allow the "ego" to take over and contemplated taking an early leave and head to the Bar.
Fortunately for me, I gave the "ego" a rest, took a deep breath, put on a smile, and choose to have a good play session with Sonia. Sonia programmed is wonderfully designed with energizers of dancing and vocal expression, she allows participants to go deep and personal with trusted sharing and sincere listening, and she imparts divine wisdom from GAIA and the Universe that lightens the spirit and inspires the soul to dance and sing.
Memorable Moments
In response to Sonia's question who likes, who loves to learn? I quickly raised my hand from the back row and was selected to come to the front to collect her book Soul Lessons and Soul Purpose - A Channelled Guide to Why You Are Here. Prior to allowing me to have the book, Sonia looked for some "fair exchange" with a playful smile and asked me to sing a song. I smiled, took a deep breath, closed my eyes, drew on a picture of my son Justin as a baby, and started singing " I Love You, I Love You, I Love Youuu" to the audience. It was probably two minutes, felt like ten, and allowed me to share my love for everyone in the audience, and honor the love that I have for the human spirit. It was a memorable moment for me and I thank Sonia for allowing me to play with her aboard the HS Amsterdam in Alaska.
A side note, I booked a day in Seattle to integrate some of the lessons from the Alaska tour and read Sonia's book and thoroughly enjoyed reading about the 11 Soul Lessons about Creative Power and 11 Soul Lessons for Working with Divine Law. It is a brilliant book with rich lessons and filled with divine messages and practical steps to apply immediately.

What would your like to do in 2010? Where would you like to share your message? And what do you need to do differently to increase your enterprise and allow your message to reach ten times the numbers that you are currently reaching (besides working more with Oprah)?

John Holland
John's keynote is highly interactive with participants in and outside of the hall. John channels messages from beings who have passed over and who have messages for loved ones in the audience. John was open to questions and shared that he is almost like a traffic cop directing messages from beings on the other side and members in the audience.
The essence of John's message is that our loved ones on the other side are fine, they love us, and that they are happy to engage, guide, and be with us. More often than not, our loved ones are proud of us and that they want us to know how much that we are loved. They are not in pain or agony and that it was their choice to cross over and that there is not blame from where they are.
I enjoyed our session though did feel some of the frustration and tiredness for John. Energy is a key component in John's work and I found myself praying and attempting to energize the room for John and for the audience.
Memorable Moments
Mike and I seemed to have made the Crow's Nest on the ship our home office away from home. During our late night sessions, or early morning, we had the great opportunity to meet many fantastic people such as Carlos, Carin, Rex, Shane, Nancy, Linda, Ann, Leila, Jose, Ash, Mimi, Mary Beth, and many others. One particular guy who really made an impact on us is one of John's best friends, confidents, and teachers - Vincent, the psychic's psychic. For me Vincent was like the most valuable player on Team Cruise, he comes off the bench, adds value to each play, gets the best out of each player and rallies the team to victory. It was great to see the friendship between John and Vincent and that they are there for each other verbally, emotionally, energetically and spiritually.

Cheryl Richardson
Practical, pragmatic, and laser like in her assessments and advice giving, Cheryl Richardson demonstrated heart communication, gratitude and professionalism in her keynote.
Cheryl 's presentation blends her personal story with many specific examples of how she has utilized learning, mentoring, coaching, teaching, and the "how to" approach to getting where she wants to go. The on stage coaching was effective and helpful though I did find that getting folks into there nearest 12 step program a little bit peculiar and seemed prescriptive rather than tailored.
Memorable Moment
Cheryl's final exercise was an excellent way to bring the session to a close. Her action plan for people to really put into action some simple yet effective steps, combined with some personal accountability was brilliant.

FUTURE OF INVESTING - Evolution or Revolution?

By Bill Cross

The title of this Outlook, "The Future of Investing," is a theme that will take the evolving years to resolve, let alone the next few days. Still, PIMCO is an organization that loves a challenge. All of us here today would agree that the answer to both questions will be highly dependent on the evolution of the global economy, and when it comes to those questions PIMCO has excelled because of its long-term secular outlook. It has paid dividends for our clients for over 30 years and it should do so now as well. The fact is, that the future of investing will depend on the long-term future of the global economy – its nominal growth rate and the distribution of that growth between public and private interests. And so we should start at the beginning, or perhaps at the top, of our top-down process – the future of the global economy.

I. Future of the Global Economy
The future of the global economy will likely be dominated by delevering, deglobalization, and reregulating, yet if so, it is important to state at the outset that we do not envision a mean reversion, cyclically oriented future, but instead a new world where players assume different roles, and models relying on bell-shaped/thin-tailed outcomes based on historical data are less relevant. Historical models look backward while modern-day finance is being fast forwarded and reconstituted almost as we speak.

1.      Deleveraging – The prior half-century of leveraging and the development of the amorphous shadow banking system was growth positive. Major G-10 economies became dominated by asset prices and asset-backed lending most clearly evidenced in housing markets. Excess consumption was promoted, and investment based on that consumption followed in turn. Savings rates in many countries including Japan, the U.K., and the U.S. fell towards zero as the reliance on rainy day thrift faded. Deleveraging of business and household balance sheets now means those trends must reverse, and as they do, growth itself will slow, bolstered primarily by government spending as opposed to the animal spirits of the private sector.

This topic is one which literally could take hours to discuss, and at PIMCO forums and Investment Committee meetings, it does. There are those of us here as well as highly respected economists outside of PIMCO who would suggest destruction as opposed to slow growth, and they may have a minority, but not insignificant, case. Much depends on the effectiveness of policy responses and the simplistic answer to a simplistic question. Can global financial markets and the global economy heal by pouring lighter fluid on an already raging fire? Can too much debt be cured by the issuance of even more debt? Must the debt supercycle come to an end by crashing and burning or does the world keep breathing with a whimper instead of a bang? We shall see, but there is a near certain probability that the financially based global economy of the past half-century will not return, nor will we experience the steroid driven growth excesses that it facilitated.

2.      Deglobalization – Lost in the wondrous descriptions of finance-dominated, Bretton Woods-initiated, global growth has been the adrenaline push provided by global trade and indeed portfolio diversification into a multitude of markets – developed or developing. Yet historians point out that globalization is not an irreversible phenomenon – witness the aftermath of WWI and nearly three decades of implosion. Now the beginning signs of trade barriers – "Buy American" and "British jobs for British workers" among them – as well as government support of locally domiciled corporations (banks and autos) suggest an inward orientation that is less growth positive. Additionally, "financial mercantilism" is an added threat – a phenomenon that speaks to growing pressure on banks to retreat from international business and concentrate on domestic markets.

3.      Reregulation – Academics, politicians, investors, central bankers and everyday citizens are questioning the economic philosophy that idolized free markets and their ability to self-regulate. The belief in uncapped and unregulated incentives producing unlimited upside but nearly always cushioned downside losses is fading. While Sarbanes-Oxley was a well publicized but relatively toothless response to the dot-com bust of nearly a decade past, today's politicians have gained the upper hand, driven by a citizenry that has recognized the unbalanced, disproportionate distribution of incomes. The efficient market thesis, so prevalent in academic theory and market modeling is now in retreat, and perhaps rightly so. In its place, we will experience less efficient but hopefully less volatile economies and markets – monitored and controlled by government regulation. Executive compensation, of course, is just the poster child. Government ownership and control of vital financial and manufacturing institutions will politely be described as "industrial based" policy and "burden sharing," but we should have no doubt that we will move significantly away from the free market model that has dominated capitalistic countries for the past 25 years.

With the top-down framework for future global economic growth in place, let's take a look at PIMCO's outlook for the future of investing – evolution or revolution.

II. The Future of Investing
Whether evolution or revolution it is important to recognize that the aftermath of an economic and investment bubble transitioning from levering to delevering, globalization to deglobalization and lax regulation to reregulation leads to an across-the-board rise in risk premiums, higher volatility and therefore lower asset prices for a majority of asset classes. The journey to a new stasis is a destructive one insofar as it affects previously assumed wealth. Rough estimates suggest that as much of 40% of global wealth has been destroyed since the beginning of this delevering process. In essence, asset prices, which are really only the discounted future value of wealth creation, go down – not only because that wealth creation slows down but because it becomes more uncertain. In such an environment, equity interests in the form of stocks, real estate or even high yield bonds become re-rated. Those who believe that capitalism is and will remain a going concern and that risk taking – over the long run – will be rewarded, must recognize that those rewards spring from beginning prices and valuations that correctly anticipate the global economy's future growth path and volatility. In terms of that old maxim "buy low – sell high," this means at the minimum that an investor during this period of re-rating must "buy low."

In turn, investor preferences towards risk taking, even when correctly calculated and modeled must be considered. Peter Bernstein has for several years counseled that policy portfolios structured for the long run and based on historical return statistics should be reconsidered. The standard pension or foundation approaches to policy portfolios are being challenged, he asserts, and PIMCO agrees. Stocks for the long run? Home prices that cannot go down? The inevitable levering of asset structures to double or quadruple returns relative to risk-free assets? These historical axioms must now be questioned. In fact, as of March 2009, the superiority of risk-asset returns are not what many assume them to be. For the past 10, 25, and 40 years, for example, total returns from bonds have exceeded those for common stocks.1 Home prices have declined a staggering 30% since their peak in late 2006, and have barely kept up with inflation for the last century according to Case-Shiller statistics. Commercial real estate when ultimately mark-to-market over the next several years will likely show similar results. In short, our stereotyped conceptions of what makes money are being challenged. As Bernstein says, there is no predestined rate of return. And a PIMCO corollary would counsel that future rates of return will be dependent on the beginning price and future growth rates and risk preferences that cannot necessarily be derived from historical models. Government policies will also play an important role, especially insofar as they impact long-standing property rights and capital structures. What I have previously described as a CQ – a common sense quotient – may take precedence over IQ and quantitative analysis in future years. How much of a benefit, for instance, did the renowned risk modeling of some of our major competitors produce over the past several years in terms of their bond funds and derivative-related products as compared to PIMCO's? We invite comparison, not only of our own risk models, but our collective common sense quotient.

What then does commonsense tell us about future asset returns? Let's revisit our previous conclusions on the developing environment for some clues. They include: delevering, deglobalization, reregulation leading to slow global growth, a heightened risk aversion, a distrust of conventional investment model portfolios, and a greater emphasis on surviving as opposed to thriving. If valid, then an investor or an investment committee would likely stress the bird in the hand – as opposed to the one in the bush; stable and secure income – as opposed to uncertain capital gains; a government-regulated utility model – as opposed to innovative yet risky venture capital investments. At current price levels, to cite one example, the current income from corporate bonds is higher and certainly more secure than the dividend income from stocks.2 A return to an era reminiscent of the first half of the 20th century is not unimaginable where stocks were viewed as subordinated income producers with yields exceeding their senior bond companions on the liability ladder.

But let me not go too far in suggesting that asset classes near the perimeter of risk have no future. They do if only because they eventually will be priced right. In fact, PIMCO intends to participate in the management of many of them, and as argued previously should be well and healthily positioned to do so. Our recent launch of a global multi-asset fund featuring tail-risk protection is just one example. The potential participation in TALF and other government-sponsored levered structures is another. Still, the tide seems to be going out and as Buffet suggests, all swimmers are being exposed, swimming suits or bare-bottomed naked.

There are a host of investment implications that one can subjectively conclude from this outgoing tide, although they have not been officially endorsed by our upcoming secular forum. It seems to me, though, that one has only to ask what investments were positively affected by the previous long-term cycle of levering, deregulation, and globalization in order to imagine which ones will do poorly as the trends reverse. A short list might read as follows:

1.      The Dollar – As the center of structured finance and the shadow banking system, the dollar was bolstered as it sold paper to the rest of the world. To date, its recent strength seems counterintuitive. Weakness may more accurately describe its future.

2.      Credit – Lax regulation and increasing leverage squeezed risk premiums and spreads to historically overvalued levels. We are now moving in full reverse.

3.      Equity – In addition to the previous conclusions, it is evident in retrospect that narrow risk premiums in credit markets facilitated narrow equity premiums in stocks if only because they seemed cheap by comparison and allowed corporations to borrow cheaply and buy back their own stock.

4.      Emerging Market Globalization and lax lending standards re-rated emerging and developing country financial markets to unrealistic levels. Eastern Europe is likely the first to fall.

Many of these trends, of course, have now reversed course, direction, and magnitude, and there will come a point where those low and lower prices, as well as the potential for successful policy healing, will favor what is now in disfavor. For now, however, let it be simplistically said that the trend is your friend and that the ad hoc, disjointed and anemic policy responses of government appear to be too little, too late. Investors should therefore favor stable income as opposed to speculative growth or the subordinate liability structures of most private market balance sheets. Shake hands with the government is and has been our motto although the contractual certainty of a government handshake may now be questioned in an increasingly number of marginal areas.

Another way to summarize our caution would be to quote a recent comment by Barton Biggs. "I am a child of the bull market," he said which upon further elaboration meant that he bought on cyclical dips with the expectation of riding mean reversion to an upward sloping trend line of prosperity and ultimately higher peaks. In a sense, we are all children of the bull market, although some of us are more mature than others – a bull market of free-enterprise productivity and innovation, yes, but one fostered by a bull market in leverage, deregulation and globalization that proved unsustainable in its excesses. We now must view ourselves as chastened adults, forced into acknowledging a new reality that is dependent upon bear-market delevering and debt liquidation to deliver us to our new and ultimate restructured destination – wherever it lies. Thus, while historians might describe these years as an evolution, for those of us living it day-by-day it most assuredly has the feel of a revolution. Much like Irving Fisher's "permanently higher plateau" of prosperity that was quickly turned on its head in 1929, those who would forecast a "permanently lower valley" of despair might similarly be off the mark. Yet there should be no doubt that the bull markets as we've known them are over and that the revolution is on. Investing is no longer child's play.

10 Day Detox - Water, Fresh Juice and Water Drinks

Decision - February 28th was the launching evening.

Inspired by some of the words of wisdom from Bruce Muzik and his own FAT LOSS Challenge http://www.designer-life.com/blog/, I decided to embark on a Ten Day Liquid Detox!

Bruce's words triggered some keen ness in me to take some action. To take on a challenge, to stretch myself, and possibly transform my body and to transform my Life.

The Detox would start following a gorgeous dinner on February 28th with Okamoto sama, his marvelous wife, daughter, son in law and 20 of his friends at Sentosa's IL LIDO.

After this amazing meal, I was going to embark on a little personal challenge.

I did some research and about 50% of the studies says liquid cleanses are not healthy while the other 50% suggest they do have some health benefits. I looked at where the studies came and noticed that many of studies against cleansing were from North America wherease many of the eastern nations actually practised periodic cleansing as a part of the their lifestyle. I choose to follow what felt best to me and listened to some advice from my buddy Dr Joe (http://drjoesdiyhealth.blogspot.com/) about sleep and vitamins and decided to move respectfully into the cleansing arena.

I got out my journal, wrote down the following plans

March 1 - Lauching Day

March 3 --- 3 Day Liquid Cleanse

March 10 ---10 Day Liquid Cleanse

March 17 - 17 Day Cleanse - Call Mom and wish her Happy Birthday!

March 21 ---21 Day Liquid Cleanse

March 22 - Happy Birthday 45 ----- and a transformation has occured!

Setting Milestones

1) Set milestones that can be achieved - for me setting 3 days, then 10 days, then 17 days, then 21 days - set me up to win!

2) Measures - i decided to journal and measure changes in the my physical weight and BMI - on day 1 i was 93.8 kg and 46 BMI - not 100% sure that the scale is correct though for this little experiment it would serve the purpose for measuring.

3) Stretching, Walking, and Moving the Body - daily activity including walking, stretching, push ups, sit ups, biking

4) Meditation and Prayer - daily prayers, meditation and checking and observing any shifts in awareness, feelings, and emotions.

5) Share and Celebrate - internally be grateful, externally be willing to listen, share and have fun!

Is Your Financial Diamond Shining? Views from Soros, Petrus and Karm

THE FINANCIAL DIAMOND Program by Petrus and Karm,

It was a great weekend with Petrus and Karm sharing their insights and distinction from the Financial Diamond Program. With participants from Oz, Japan, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Singapore, the UK, Canada and South Africa in the room, the feedback collected was stellar for content, enjoyable for entertainment, and optimistic for potential collaborative investing.

During the session, Petrus mentioned George Soros and went into the concept of "reflexivity" and highlighted Soros' recent book called, The New Paradigm for Financial Markets: The Credit Crisis of 2008 and What it Means.

Some of the highlights for a review of the book on

- underlying thesis of the book is that the current financial system has been built on a false paradigm, namely that financial markets tend towards equilibrium. This misleading paradigm has directly resulted in the financial woe that we're experiencing.

- Soros' paradigm, which he started developing when he was a student at LSE, is the concept of reflexivity - the idea that prices influence the underlying fundamentals and that newly-influenced set of fundamentals proceed to change expectations, thus influencing prices - a self-reinforcing pattern. Because outcomes after each cycle are different from the previous outcome, this theory is often termed the discordant with equilibrium theory.

The first part of the book is all about the theory of reflexivity. The second part of the book talks about the current financial crisis and where we are headed beyond 2008.

-The main takeaways are:

We need a new paradigm, whether its reflexivity or something else; the previous equilibrium paradigm simply does not hold
Although the US in a recession, there's no reason to expect a global recession due to significant expansionary forces among countries like China, India, Russia and other emerging economies
New bubbles are forming – raw materials, energy, agriculture
A period of political and financial instability is around the corner as the rest of the world Challenge's United States' dominant economic power and the USD as the global reserve currency
China's rising renminbi will create further problems for the United States
Policy changes are a means to achieving a more stable system
Short US and European stocks, US ten-year government bonds, and the US dollar
Long Chinese, Indian and Gulf State stocks and non-US currencies

Petrus' explanation of the concept of reflexivity helps explain why markets tend over extend during bubble and bear markets and helps to explain how each of individuals and the collectivel contribute to the dynamics of markets. He continued to tie it nicely into the positive areas of personal responsibility and the downward spiral of expectations. The latter leading to blame, victim, and disempowered behaviors while the former, yielding empowering choice, prsonal growth, and spirial ascension.

I will share more about the Financial Diamond and some of my key distinctions, insights, and learnings in a future blog.

Report from Mumbai Airport - Saturday 29th of November

I am sitting at Mumbai airport following a five hour drive from Pune. It is 1030pm and my flight back to Singapore leaves at 0030am. The television is blaring with reports from the Taj and Oberoi Hotels.

India has just been hit with 48hours of terror. 25 well equipped soldiers, aged 18 to 25 years old, hit Mumbai to create maximum damage with precision, planning, and preparation. According to reports blasting on the television, India has been brought down to their knees by the terrorists and uncertainty and confusion reigns

"Enough is enough" is the heading of the other television and the event is now referred to as "India's 9/11"

My prayers and condolences go the family and friends of the victims of the terrorist attack. In conversation with Maya, a dear friend and extraordinary giver in India, she expressed shock and disbelief. Several of her friends have been directly impacted by the tragedy including the GM at the Taj whose wife and three children were killed.

I was scheduled to meet at a five star hotel in Mumbai on Friday to meet up with some XL members and provide some coaching and guidance on building the community in Mumbai. The event was cancelled and my schedule was detoured away from Mumbai Central District directly to the airport.

As I ponder the past week in India which started last week with me graciously hosting the Entrepreneur Life Shift Coaching program at the Taj West in Bangalore.

I am currently sitting at the Celebration Lounge at Mumbai airport watching the reports, and I ask myself one of my favorite coaching questions - what feelings did you experience in the past week?

During the past week, I experienced joy, sadness, connection, isolation, optimism and pessimism.

The current feeling is one of sadness. Sadness for the families who lost loved ones during the terrorist attacks. Ten of Mumbai's most pronounced land sites were targeted and more than 125 were killed with over 600 people injured. As I write, the gunfire continues at the Taj Mumbai.

Joy was an emotion experienced earlier in the week with a visit to SRIKRUPA's home for underpriveledgedd children in Bangalore. A lovely charity set up by XL Member Krupa and her mother now teach more than 200 children daily, help more than 400 children monthly and house more than 10 homeless children. Connection was an emotional experienced during the Sunday session in Bangalore. It was beautiful to see the group embrace Krupa's work in Bangalore. Specifically it was super to see Meena share some wonderful ideas to build Krupa's brand, it was great to see members take action on Alex's opportunity knocks to support the orphanage and it was amazing to see Jaya Pai to step up and make a 40000 Rupee donation from his account at HSBC.

Connection was also experienced with Sundeep sharing his experience with his family hospital, and then Ajay sharing his business opportunity in hospitals, especially with the training of nurses, and then inviting visiting XL member from New Zealand GuruDev, an experienced intensive care nurse to join him in possible training, IT software solutions, and exploring health care opportunities between New Zealand and India.

Isolation was an emotion that I actually choose to experience this past week as my schedule included some time in a ashram for some silent meditation. During one specific exercise, I was observing the chatter of my mind and purposely moved into stillness. In the stillness, the alertness of my senses was heightened and I was actually able to shift from isolation to connection. I went from feeling all alone, isolated and disconnected and through the processes of breath observation, the awareness of thought was heightened and I was able to shift to feeling connected to a great whole, I felt connected to the universe, and the shift from isolation to connectivity brought warmth, comfort and joy into my emotional awareness.

Pessimism is prevalent in the voice of Mumbai as I listen and watch the local television channels. The public are upset with the government, the public is afraid, the children are traumatized and the prevailing question is "how are we going to protect the citizens of Mumbai", how do we combat terrorism? , how do we restore safety for the citizen of Mumbai?

As I finish my time in India and I reflect back to my time in India, I am able to remain optimistic.

As I re-read the wise words of Deepak Chopra noted in my earlier blog, I am able to find silver lining in the current cloudy experience.

The tragedy in India will increase dialogue.

I am hopeful that people will shift from denial to table constructive dialogue that will allow movement in finding common ground that will lead to strategic choices to collaborate, to work together and to look for ways to reduce isolation and to increase dialogue as a means to connect, communicate and collaborate.

I am reminded though perhaps we will have to process that experience and go through the steps of grieving – denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. For some this will takes days, for some months, and for some years, I am hopeful that the governments of India and Pakistan will increase dialogue and collaborate and not seek revenge as some forces would probably like to see occur.

CNN) -- The Indian city of Mumbai exploded into chaos early Thursday morning as gunmen launched a series of attacks across the country's commercial capital, killing scores of people and taking hostages in two luxury hotels frequented by Westerners.

Deepak Chopra says extremists could be reacting to Barack Obama's gestures toward Muslims.

CNN's Larry King spoke with author Deepak Chopra about the situation.

Larry King: Let's go to Dr. Deepak Chopra, the physician, philosopher. His new book is "Jesus: A Story of Enlightenment."

Where were you born in India, Deepak?

Deepak Chopra: I was born in Delhi, but I have been in these hotels many, many times. I have stayed there, so I know the scene; I know the restaurants. I have been trying to get in touch with my friends and relatives, some of whom I have spoken to, some of whom I can't speak to. The lines are jammed. We're texting each other.

A friend of mine from Egypt was in the restaurant at the Taj hotel when the firing started, and somehow she managed to avoid the fray, hid in a basement and is now holed up in a room which is right next to the Taj hotel and is waiting to be told what to do.

The situation is complex, Larry, because it could inflame to proportions that we cannot even imagine. It has to be contained. We now recognize that this is a global problem, with only a global effort can solve this.

And you know, one of the things that I think is happening is that these militant terrorist groups are actually terrified that [President-elect Barack] Obama's gestures to the rest of the Muslim world may actually overturn the tables on them by alienating them from the rest of the Muslim world, so they're reacting to this.

You know, this is Obama's opportunity to actually harness the help of the Muslims.

You know, there's 1.8 billion Muslims in the world. That's 25 percent of the population of the world. It's the fastest-growing religion in the world. We cannot, if we do not appease and actually recruit the help of this Muslim world, we're going to have a problem on our hands.

And we cannot go after the wrong people, as we did after 9/11, because then the whole collateral damage that occurs actually aggravates the situation.

In India, this is particularly inflammatory, because there's a rise of Hindu fundamentalism. We saw what that did in Gujarat, where, you know, Muslims were scorched and they were killed, and there was almost a genocide of the Muslims.

India has 150 million Muslims. That's more Muslims in India than in Pakistan. So this is an opportunity right now for India and Pakistan to recognize this is their common problem. It's not a Muslim problem right now; it's a global problem.

King: Do you think that this is just the beginning, that there's a potential impact, or more?

Chopra: There is a potential impact of a lot more carnage. But it can be contained. And right now, one of the questions, you know, after I heard Barbara Starr talking about how coordinated this is, that there are militant groups that cross international boundaries, is who is financing this? Where is the money coming from? We have to ask very serious, honest questions. What role do we have in this? Are our petrodollars funding both sides of this war on terrorism? Why are we not asking the Saudis where that money is going that we give them? Is it going through this supply chain to Pakistan?

It's not enough for Pakistan to condemn it. Pakistan should cooperate with India in uprooting this. They should be part of the surgery that is going to happen.

It's not enough for Indians to blame Pakistanis. Indians should actually ask the Pakistanis to help them.

And it's not enough for us to worry about Westerners being killed and Americans being killed. Every life is precious over there. We have got to get rid of this idea that this is an American problem or a Western problem. It's a global problem, and we need a global solution, and we need the help of all the Muslims, 25 percent of the world's population, to help us uproot this problem.

King: What does India immediately do?

Chopra: India at this moment has to contain any reactive violence from the fundamentalist Hindus, which is very likely and possible. So India has to condemn that by not blaming local Muslims. They have to identify the exact groups.

And the world has to be very careful that they don't go after the wrong people. Because if you go after the wrong people, you convert moderates into extremists. It happens every time, and retribution against innocent people just because they have the same religion actually aggravates and perpetuates the problem.

King: Are you pessimistic?

Chopra: I think Mr. Obama has a real opportunity here, but a challenging opportunity, a creative opportunity.

Get rid of the phrase "war on terrorism." Ask for a creative solution in which we all participate.

King: Is it because the war on terrorism really can never be won because the terrorists (inaudible)?

Chopra: Because it's an oxymoron. It's an oxymoron, Larry, a war on war, a war on terrorism.

You know, terrorists call mechanized death from 35,000 feet above sea level with a press of a button also terror. We don't call it that, because our soldiers are wearing uniforms. They don't see what is happening, and innocent people are being killed. So, you know, terror is a term that you apply to the other.

Entrepreneurial Life Shift Coaching Weekend in Jakarta. The session
was one of the best attended events for XL Indonesia and it appears
that everyone had an insightful and enjoyable weekend. It was great to
connect with Shinta from Dubai and she shared some of her amazing
successes in Dubai working in one of the hottest real estate markets
in the market with her sister and business partners, Patrick and
Bernard.

and happy - happy is being grateful for what you have while success is
achieving something that you want - what other distinctions can you
share about success and happiness?

School in Jakarta. It was great to connect with 120++ teenagers and
share some stories, insights and distinctions. The young people were
amazing and left me with a very warm and optimistic feeling that the
next generation are really wise, curious, and aware many years beyond
their chronological age.

it will likely lead to some guest lecturing and keynote presentation
for Dr D! Thank you also to JJ for sharing her view of the current
financial crisis from a former bankers perspective (JJ was country
head of Bank of New York Thailand for 14 years). We also had guest
lectures on risk management by Sjaaks and on creativity by Dr D and by
Andy Steel on the amazing shift with Plant a Tree Today. It was a
results filled weekend in Bangkok.

A is for awesome attitude - the power of mastermind groups was
demonstrated, shared and established in Bangkok. We ran a number of
skill mills demonstrating the power of mastermind groups and it led to
some awesome insights and major shifts in atttitudes, awareness, and
beliefs.

Plenty of opportunities in the Land of 1000 Smiles and as i get ready
to board my flight back to Singapore, I will revisited the 6 criteria
for selecting opportunities and revisit opportunities and put them
through the criteria to see which ones, resonate with the spirit of
enterprise for me!

Excerpts from the daily ramblings of the 12 FIne Lads Investment club,
established in Canada in 1986-1987 and still moving forward after over
twenty years. A public thank you the the GL'dy for putting in the
effort, persistance, and support to allow the club to continue. to
foster the spirit of investment after all these years. Thank you to
all the members who have contributed over the years.

What is Mr Buffet up to these days?

"Buffet "bails out" GE. This is as clear as it gets. GE is raising
$12 billion of equity of which Buffet is buying $3 billion at $22.25
(10% discount). This is a company that 1 week ago said it will make
$20 billion in 2008 yet has lost short term access to the capital
markets.

Look at your portfolios and look at companies that rely on the capital
markets or banking markets to survive. The debt capital markets are
effectively shut at this time and luckily someone smart at GE was
looking ahead to realize that they have a significant funding program
that needs to rollover. This $12 billion of equity will help them
wait it out as there funding costs were heading through 8-9%."

With funding costs going up, especially for multinationals requiring
regular funding, it could get a whole lot uglier? What holdings do you
have that might be squeezed and is it too late to hedge your position,
get out of your positions or reverse your short term exposure by
overhedging during this perfect storm?

I was a seller of tech and IT last night and will likely move into
some financials (RY), agricultural (ag) and perhaps even GE.

KIA ORA from South Africa, Cape Town!
Sept 25-26, 2008

Kia Ora is a Maori greeting which has entered my vocabulary from the
introduction and explanation from dear friend and brother Marewa from
New Zealand.
It means literally "be well/healthy" and may also be regarded in a
more formal sense as a traditional greeting of businesses. For me it
has been the format that I started to use to write my reports from the
various countries that I have had the honor and opportunity to speak
at.

K is for KIND THANKS – To the South Africa leadership team – Liza,
Greer and Lluwellyn for your hospitality, generosity, sincerity and
leadership. Special thank you also to Eric and Elise for spearheading
XL's entrée into South Africa and Bruce Muzik for playing a huge role
in attracting the early adapters in Africa! Congratulations to Bruce
for an outstanding showing as one of the top three Extraordinary Lives
awards along with John DeMartini and Getrude Matshe!

I is for INSPIRATION – my top three inspiring people were actually
three groups of mini-teams. Number 3 is Team Rika, her awesome brother
and amazing father. Rika is the Olympian Rower from South Africa who
recently performed in South Africa. Rika's evolution throughout the
weekend was inspiring as she stepped into her voice, with the support
of her family, and the curiosity and motivation from her new health
and wellness clients Luther Diedricks and the renowned speaker,
author, social entrepreneur Billy Selekane.

Number 2 was the team of Ian and Lilian for their amazing
collaboration to convert deserts into forests and their willingness to
support each other in a vision of a better world principally through
planting programs that will provide fresh fruits and vegetable to
vulnerable children throughout South Africa and beyond. An idea to a
proposal to a planting that included more than twenty amazing people
on Monday afternoon, very inspiring!

Number 1 was my experience with Zelda, the Extraordinary Lives award
winner for South Africa in 2008 along with her talented
entrepreneurial daughter Chaeli. We were treated to an inspiring dance
demonstration by wheel chair bound Chaeli and her dancing partner,
Jesse. Chaeli and her sister and three friends have demonstrated
effective and exceptional entrepreneurial spirit for all South
Africans, but especially the power of youth. Inspired to earn enough
to get Chaeli a specialized wheel chair, the inspiring ladies set up a
foundation, a café and now employ more than eight personal throughout
South Africa, including Zelda and her husband. When I heard the
story, my mouth dropped open, my head started shaking, and my eyes
started to leak, WOW, is all I could say as I was in the presence of
inspiration.

A is for AWARDS - It was my pleasure to acknowledge Jessy of
Extraordinary Travel in Cape Town as the first resident of South
Africa for the XL Social Entrepreneur Accreditation program. Jessy
arranges magical events and group tours throughout South Africa and
absolutely loves what she does. After meeting Chaeli, Jessy expanded
her generous giving to include funds for the Chaeli Campaign in 2009
and shared that she will be providing " mobility to differently-abled
children because she wants to give them the opportunity to share in
the passion for travel as well."

O is for OPPORTUNITIES – Are there opportunities in Cape Town? Are
there opportunities in South Africa? For call centers in the same time
zone and at one fifth the costs, may I suggest you contact Paul. For
real estate in Cape Town may I suggest you connect with Petrus. For
opportunities in people development, coaching and training, may I
suggest you connect with Brian or Karen or Marcel. For opportunities
with the 2010 World Cup, may I suggest you get in touch with Greer.
For opportunities to make a difference for premature kids, Lavonne is
your lady. For opportunities in entrepreneurship, Luther, Lewellyn,
Shurnell, Billy, and Lilian can point you in the right or left
direction, either way you will find your way and the law of third step
removed with be working for you. In South Africa, I definitely had the
feeling that opportunities are everywhere.

R is for RESULTS – Great outcomes and Results can be found throughout
Cape Town and throughout South Africa and that was especially evident
during the Entrepreneur Shift Weekend in South Africa.

My top three for results oriented successful entrepreneurs was rather
simple. Number 3 was human talent entrepreneur Caryn for her
confidence, certainty and commitment to people empowerment. A leader
in placing and providing full service recruiting and placement for
engineering professionals Caryn is a professional with a heart. It was
Caryn who single handedly ensured that Ian's dream of "deserts into
forests" started with a very generous unsolicited five figure
contribution.

Number 2 was Billy Selekane who in the slightly more than half day
with the group, demonstrated his go to attitude by throwing his
support behind Rika and her future as a potential Olympian for 2012 in
London, or as a professional speaker or as Elite Health and Wellness
professional, by adding his energy to the tree planting and for
showing everyone in the room what belief, courage and action is about.
Billy is one of South Africa's leading speakers, trainers, and
entrepreneurs and his willingness to serve, support and lead is a
demonstration that really makes Billy Selakane a go-to-results driven
guy!

Number 1 for results is an inspiring and high achieving entrepreneur
with a huge heart. The moment I met Petrus I knew that I was
interested to explore possibilities and opportunities with him. When I
met his wife, I knew I had to do some business with this man. Petrus
currently is the majority stakeholder in eleven plus enterprises
operating throughout South Africa. His major interest is in sharing
the opportunities, the wisdom and wealth flexibility of
entrepreneurship and he is successful doing it in commercial real
estate development, business development, investments and people
development. Petrus is about results with a degree of integrity,
fiscal transparency, and legal professionalism that is truly inspiring
and a key component of his attraction for this international investor
and deal maker.

A is for APPRECIATION – Thank you to the amazing group of social
entrepreneurs who invested the time, energy and finances to visit with
me in Cape Town. Special thanks to James and Deidre for a brilliant
generosity and kindness. A big heartfelt thank you to Debbie and
George for introducing me to the Pathways of the Sun, the gift so
helped me to move from awareness to understanding about the magical
energy fields vibrating throughout the sacred mountains and water
bodies throughout South Africa. Thank you to Ms Liteon for allowing me

Capetown - Guided by the Light to a Light in Africa

Flight SQ 480 arrived at 730am, a pleasant thirteen hour jaunt from
the Island State of Singapore to Cape Town, a city that I am calling
"A Light in Africa."

Surprisingly, I smoothly and simply picked up my luggage, then
gracefully whisked through customs, immigration, and easily found my
awaiting associate from XL South Africa, Lluwellyn Diedericks at the
arrival areas of the International Airport. The freshness, lightness,
and chilly air of Capetown, filled me with excitement, energy, and a
sense of vibrancy. I felt invigorated, I have arrived in South Africa,
this is my first visit and I am looking forward to connecting with
Mother Africa, the Children of Africa and the entrepreneurs of Africa.

We were quickly joined by Lluwellyn's City Leaders Lisa and Greer and
chose to have our first lovely informal connection in Camps Bay, an
amazing spot where the Atlantic Ocean, the beach, and the 12 Apostles
Mountain range comingle with majestic grace, vibrational delight, and
divine flow that shifted my body, mind and spirit to an altered state
of cellular serenity, bliss, and awareness that I had yet to feel,
experience, or recall anywhere in the world.

Breakfast flowed for several hours as three South African
entrepreneurs shared some of their stories of the ups and downs of
entrepreneurship in South Africa, the economic challenges, the
political climate, and their mostly upbeat outlook for
entrepreneurship in South Africa. I felt humbled to be in their
presence and truly felt that their belief, courage and action would
see them through the terrain that spirited entrepreneur must face to
endure, experience, and embrace the greatness that is possible through
entrepreneurship.

As a member of the XL Results Foundation, I was pleased to share the
XL Promise in South Africa, a promise that is resonating with social
entrepreneurs around the world. The XL promise is "to share the
playground for extraordinary lives to grow and to build the foundation
for world wide wealth to flow."

World Wide Wealth is the 2020 vision of XL Results Foundation Chairman
Roger Hamilton, a shared vision of more than 3500 entrepreneurs around
the globe. The vision sees for the eradication of extreme poverty
globally and sets steps for the XL Results Foundation to increase
value for member's enterprises by at least one billion dollars per
year which will translate into effective giving initiatives of at
least one hundred million dollars per year. It is felt that
entrepreneurs will be the effective change agents to set in motion
sustainable, practical, and collaborative methodologies in the fields
of health & wellness, the environment, education, and peace and
prosperity.

As a former banker, bond trader, and financial professional, I choose
to listen and query and also share some statistic with my three new
friends from Capetown.
Did You Know about Capetown?

The Western Cape is an important tourist region in South Africa; the
tourism industry accounts for 9.8% of the GDP of the province and
employs 9.6% of the province's workforce. In 2004, over 1.5 million
international tourists visited the area

The mining industry in Cape Town has been booming for last 6 years.
6000 miners are now employed in the mining industry since 2002.

The city was recently named as the most entrepeneurial city in South
Africa, with the percentage of Capetonians pursuing business
opportunities almost three times higher than the national average.
Those aged between 18-64 were 190% more likely to pursue new business,
whilst in Johannesburg, the same demographic group was only 60% more
likely than the national average to pursue a new business.

Cape Town is also a host city to the 2010 FIFA World Cup from 11 June
to 11 July 2010, further enhancing its profile as a major events city.

Following a stimulating breakfast, my kind hosts chose to give me a
short tour of the Table Mountains, and highlighted some sights
including Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was incarcerated for more
than 20 years from June 12 1964 to April 1984.

It made me smile to think that, yeah I was born in 1964, and I lived
in Canada for 21 years before moving to Japan to set out on my global
adventure. The comparison with Nelson Mandela was stalled there but
then my curiosity started to play? And as I stood there facing Robben
Island, the place where Nelson Mandela resided for twenty years, rain
gently massaging my face, and in the majestic glory and eternal
vibration of the sea, the wind, and the mountains, I asked;

1) What do I see as the similarities of Mandela's Life and Legacy
and My Life and Legacy as an Entrepreneur?
Could it be the opportunities, the vision, the passion, the purpose,
the conviction, the certainly, the uncertainty, the luck, the timing
or the talent?

2) Does the comparison inspire or frighten?

I left Robben Island that day a little bit different. A little
frightened and a little more inspired. There was a reason after 44
years on this planet, I had been guided to Cape Town, I was certain of
that, and I felt unbelievably blessed that a Light had guided me to
Africa, a light had guided me to Cape Town, and a light had guided me
to come face to face with Robben Island and to the man called Nelson
Mandela, which lead to the third question

3)As Robben Island is to Nelson Mandela, is there anything in my life
that is keeping my in prison? Is there a specific belief, a rule, a
conviction that is holding me back, keeping me down?

If I answered the question today, I feel that it is my relationship
with racism, my relationship with equality, and my relationship with
myself. I will be exploring racial discrimination and racial equality
as an area that may allow me to add some insights, to share some
distinctions, and perhaps make a difference to someone, somewhere.

To bring this chapter of my first visit to Cape Town to completion, I
am pleased to share three quotes by Nelson Mandela:

Walking About Fiumicino - Big Voice - Little Voice

Across the bridge and down the street, I slowly walked into the little
town of Fiumincino, the seaside town next to Rome's largest
international airport.

I expected little, though hoped that I might find some charming
remnants of a city that attracted a major airport, perhaps, if I was
really lucky, I would find a gem of a city, like Narita City offers
day trippers who visit during stop-overs in Tokyo, Japan.

For the first hour, and all along the right side of the road, were
little shops, cafes, and pizzerias inhabited by local seniors getting
together for their morning chat session.

On the left side, were the little crawlers, fishing boats, and
sporadic fishing rod manned by senior citizens enjoying their morning
fishing expedition.

I lucked upon a young boy around 12 years old at the side of the pier,
and greeted him with a "bonjouno". He barely moved, glanced up and
said "hello". Surprised with his English I asked him how he was and
where was he from. He muttered something and looked up with sad, hurt,
and wet eyes.

With an emphatic look, I asked him, "what is your little voice saying to you?"

Perplexed, he looked at me and said, "what did you say?"

While maintaining a sense of empathy, I mentioned that we all have a
little voice in our head, sometimes it speaks softly and kindly,
sometimes it speakers loudly and harshly, and sometimes it says very
little and is still and silent.

My little voice is saying to me: you are not smart, you are not good,
you are not attractive, you are not successful, you are stupid, you
are dumb, you are ugly, you are a failure, you are a loser, you are
alone, you have no friends, you are useless, and it is repeating you
are a loser, you are dumb, and you are such a loser!!!

Curiously, I asked him if he wanted to walk with me along the pier and
he nodded and said yes. We stood up, stretched to the left, stretched
to the right, stretched upwards, I asked him to look up, take a deep
breath and noticed that a slight smile emerged from his previously
distraught look. We headed towards to the tip of the pier and noticed
how serene and quiet the pier was.

There was a smattering of fisherman, a few hawkers from Africa, plenty
of pigeons, and the two of us walking along the pier.

As we walked, I noticed that while we were walking together, in many
ways we walking alone and in many ways we were really only walking
with our respective little voices. And it was little voices that were
greatly influencing our thoughts, beliefs and feelings.

We continued to walk in our own little worlds, when we glanced to the
left of the pier and noticed beach umbrellas, many beach umbrellas, I
mean hundreds of beach umbrellas.

My little voice rang is bedazzlement, WOW!

On one side of Fiumicino is a quiet little town, very few people, very
little activity, and very little action.

While just a few minutes away, just five minutes on foot, just a
little jaunt over the bridge, there was the famous Fiumicino Beach
with thousands of visitors who flock there every weekend to enjoy the
sun, the sea, and the sand.

Both of us were surprised at the shift in energy in the two places,
both of us were surprised by the shift in our energy, the shift in the
tone of inner voice, and the shift in the composition of the words
emitting from our little voice.

What does your little voice say now, I asked?

He replied, wow, that's so cool, what a difference one hundred metres
makes, amazing, life is so mysterious, that looks like fun, let's do
it, let's check it out, god's delay is not god's denial, persistence
is the key to discovery, light & dark, yin & yang, contrast is
brilliant, and finally he looked up at me, and whispered thank you!

We moved towards the beach, the umbrellas, the restaurants, and the
people and with a smile on our faces, we looked upwards to the sky,
placed our arms around each other's shoulders, smiled slightly and
uttered, thank you, thank you, thank you!

I became aware of the twelve year old self that fine day walking the
streets of Fiumicino.

It was a memorable experience, a memorable awareness, and memorable
realization.

The walk, the listening, the conversation connected me with a part of
myself that is vibrant, alive, clear and direct. A part that when
respected, loved, and listened to can serve, empathize, and can
enliven the spirit, a spirit the can make a difference.

The Secret History Of the American Empire by John Perkins

Why did I finish this book in less than 24 hours?
Perkins had me from the start of the book, with his personal stories,
specific references, and factual information that made the secret
history of the American empire and the manipulation, deception, and
ruthlessness of big business USA come alive.

I found myself curious about Perkin's story and our short connection
at the Transformation Leadership Counsel in Colorado in July 2008
brought the relevancy of this book to the forefront of my conscious
and subconscious mind. I COULD NOT put it down until I finished it.

The starts off in Asia as Perkins shares his personal experiences as
an economic hit man during the same time that I was working in Asia
Pacific as a bond trader servicing clients from Korea, Japan,
Thailand, Indonesia, China, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Singapore and the
mighty USA. Perkins was part of the group of economic hit man assigned
by associates from esteemed entities such as the American controlled
world bank, usaid, the international monetary fund and leading
consulting and multinationals representing American interest in
infrastructure, including water, oil, minerals and other commodities.
Perkins' stories brought me back to some of my experiences with
Perkins-type consultants in Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia are where
they were truly living the high life during the heady days of 1994 to
1997 and throughout the Asia Crisis of 1997 to 2000.

Perkins moves on to shares his 30+ years experiences in Latin America,
from the youthful days as a peace corp volunteer to his numerous roles
in Bolivia, Chile, Argentina, and throughout Latin America as an
economic hit man. A man assigned to convince the leaders of nations
to take huge bribes in exchange for loans, grants, and bribes to
sponsor huge infrastructure investments in their countries for roads,
electricity and water plants. His activity came to a conclusion as his
conscious got up with him and he shifted to ways that make a positive
contribution through his foundational work with transformation groups
such as Dream Change and the Pachamama Alliance.

Perkins insights into the corruption and influence in the Middle East
and Africa will shock most people and will feed fuel to anyone who is
interested in conspiracy theories, government upheaval and stories of
espionage, bribes, and big brother global manipulation.

His conclusion looks at ways that we can be agents of change, agents
that will challenge and redirect global forces of corruption, bribes
and manipulation, agents that will give the next generation a chance,
the planet a chance and humanity a chance to survive, evolve and

Top Dining Experiences - Rodney's Oysters in Toronto

Have you ever been to a restaurant that left you with an experience
that was AWESOME and then came back years later and was disappointed?

In 1995, we visited a restaurant on Adelaide Street, the restaurant
was Rodney's and everything about the meal was brilliant – the
service, the oysters, the fruit beer, and the company.

Fast forward to 2008, we visit Toronto and have time for one meal. We
choose Rodney's!

We find out that a few shifts have occurred in the last 13 years –
one, the location has shifted from Adelaide to King Street, two, the
menu has shifted from one menu to two menus, and three, the size of
the place has shifted from small to large.

As we all know, SHIFT Happens (www.continualshift.com) BUT thank
goodness, the awesomeness of the food has remained consistent at
Rodney's!

The oysters were delicious, the clam chowder was brilliant (seconds
please!), and the experience exceeded expectations!

HORRAY!

Sometimes a meal is more than a meal. It is a memory, it is a feeling,
it is an experience.

Thank you Rodney's for making one more amazing memory!

Finest Dining in Firenze - more than a meal, it was a "Fantastico Experience"

Maybe it was the friendly welcome from Antonio, the head waiter, or
perhaps it was the family atmosphere, the pictures, the memorabilia,
or perhaps it was a higher calling from the T-bone steak goddess of
divine dining that invited us into this quaint restaurant in Firenze
called Trattoria Del Fagioli.

We almost walked by the trattoria as the humble wooden doorway was
less than impressive.

The first greeting by Antonio was welcoming and not the voice from
somebody who was starving for clients. We were seated next to the bar
in front of collection of pictures, and souvenir money from the UK,
Japan, China, the US, and Italy.

"Sparkling or stilled?", was the first question from Antonio, for
which we decided stilled. Once comfortably seated, we dug into the
menu, a fine array of pasta's, appetizers, and meat. The speciality of
the house was "steak florentine" which turned out to be a delicious T
bone steaks sold by the kilogram - One Kg for two people, two kg for
four people, or three kg for six people.

We asked Antonio how was the steak, "FANTASTICO" responded Antonio
with certainty, happiness, and pride.

In fact, his response was the most certain, confident, and congruent
response that I have ever heard from a waiter.

Buoyed with Antonio's enthusiasm and confidence, we asked about
vegetables and he proudly suggested string beans and zucchini. We
added some white wine from Toscany for our starter wine and Antonio
proudly repeated our order, florentine, string beans and zucchini,
Fantastisco!

About 15 minutes passed during which time Chef's GIGI and Mauritizio
expertly treated the meat and prepared it with experience, expertise,
and care. The 1kg T-bone steak arrived, dwarfing the size of the
plate, it was the cooked medium rare, on the open fire barbecue with
most of the time cooked on its side, the bone side.

The first bite sent me into an altered state, tasty, juicy, succulent,
WOW is all I could respond! The second, third, and forth bites brought
me back to earth though the experience, the WOW experience of T-bone
heaven set the tone for my finest T-bone dining experience during this
lifetime.

A lovely house red wine from Tuscany was added to meal and it added a
flamboyance to the taste buds. Then came the veggies, the zucchini
and string beans boiled and baked with oil, garlic, and rustically
served next to the steak.
Each bite was delicious, flavorful, and added to experience at
Trattoria Del Fagioli.

Dessert was added with two house specials though I must admit, by then
my belly was full, my head was starting some slight spins, and my
palate was satiated.

Trattoria Del Fagioli was a FANTASTICO experience, as much for the
delicious food as it was from the fantastic
1) service
2) amazing attention to detail.
3) energy and enthusiasm of the waiters, of owners, and the chefs

As we left, we decided to leave Antonio with a souvenir from
Singapore, and added to his collection of currencies from around the
world - some Singapore currency to add to the fantastic flow of
Trattoria Del Fagioli!

A Reflective Life - Meetings Magical People

In the next 24 hours, notice five people that come into your world and
allow yourself to be the observer, notice the energy that flows,
notice the energy in motion that is created, notice the emotions that
are triggered.

On June 22nd I boarded flight SQ237 from Singapore to Melbourne to
reconnect with friends Peter Gorgeski, Vasko, Louise and Melissa. The
flight left Singapore at 1145pm was scheduled to arrive at 830am
Monday morning. I love night flights and love the idea of arriving in
a new city after six to twelve hours metal bird. Louise was arriving
from London at 445am and was intending to meet me at Melbourne Airport
along with Peter and her new friend Robert.

The first person I met at the airport was Robert, who immediately
approached me and welcomed me to Melbourne. As this was our first
meeting and there must have been about eighty people at the arrival
area, my first impression was WOW, that was pretty cool. After a warm
welcome from Robert, who reported that Louise was delivered safely to
her resting place as the flight from the UK was not re-energizing as
my flight from Singapore. Within minutes we connected with Peter at
the arrival hall and choose to introduce ourselves over some java,
some water, and some juice at the airport café.

Energetically, Peter, Robert and I connected exceptionally well. Not a
huge surprise as we had been brought together through vehicles of
transformation such as XL Results Foundation, the Global Dialogue
Initiative, and Robert's upcoming feature DVD presentation that are
all focused on service, love, and contribution. Our airport gathering
lasted close to four hours as we shared some details, some history,
and some stories that we individually and collectively have manifested
in our lives.

Robert is a determined executive producer of an upcoming DVD that will
share a collective message of awakening, love, gratitude and
heightening of global consciousness. Robert's personal spiritual quest
took an unexpected turn in November 2007, when he met with Louise
Langley, the author of the Sacred Quest in Melbourne. Since that
initial meeting, hours of talking, connecting, and sharing has
resulted in Robert and Louise choosing to collaborate on their
individual missions of sharing the message of the ether, sharing the
message of evolution, and sharing the message of divine being-ness.
Robert's project has taken some additional twist and turns as Louise
has opened up the project to delightful speakers, authors and experts
in the areas of health, wellness, energy, NLP, and light work. At the
kind introduction of Louise, Robert kindly asked me to join the
project and arranged for a few hours of filming during my trip to
Melbourne.

We left the airport at 1215pm and Peter asked me how I felt. I
actually felt great and it was easily agreed that I would join Peter
at his lovely home to see his family. I had the priveledge to meet his
lovely wife Evoxia at the life shift in November in Melbourne and I do
remember saying "WOW Peter, that's your wife." Evoxia is a lovely
lady, energetically sensitive, and spiritually wise - european exotica
is how I described her to a mate. They have three terrific kids – 10
year old Claudia, 8 year Christian, and my buddy four year old Noah.
Peter and his great family joined the first XL Pioneer Club visit to
India and I was thrilled to accompany them on several of the days and
several of the adventures.
Claudia is wise beyond her years, yet brings an awareness and reminder
to adults to enjoy youth and enjoy stepping up and that we can do so
much more! Christian is a wonderfully adjusted lad, able to step up,
be responsible and nurture the younger kids, while also allow himself
the space to have fun, misbehave, and be a big kid. Then there is
Noah, shy at first, and then the one who can attract, entertain, and
keep an audience engaged with his wit, humor, and curiosity. It was a
great way to invest a few hours with Peter, Evoxia and their three
great kids and a great environment.

Following a visit to the G Family nest, I was dropped back to my
Melbourne home base and get ready for the evening activities. Visit

Koh Samui Regatta 2008

What happens when you cross a Foxy Lady with a Mandrake, a Jelik, and
a DK46 mix in some sun, water, and waves? You get a picturesque
setting for the grand finale of the Asian Yachting Grand Prix
Champtionship and a partial roster of the 7th Annual Koh Samui
Regatta.

The Koh Samui Regatta concluded on June 7th, 2008 having attracted
over 300 sailors, friends and families from more than 12 countries.

The last day saw good sailing conditions with 8- to 10-knot
northwesterly winds, after days of variable and light winds.

Callum Laing, new Chairman of the Koh Samui Regatta, was pleased with
the performance of the Regatta team and was quick to offer praise to
key players who ensured that the event was professionally run and that
the sailors were well attended to.

Laing shared his appreciation to the list of international
participants who attended the Samui Regatta and graciously thanked the
sponsors of the event including lead sponsor Raimon Land, Centaur, Singha Beer,
and a long list of local sponsors in Koh Samui.

On the water, Ray Roberts, the top Asian sailor for 2008, Matt Allen,
Commodore of the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia, and Andrew Short,
also from the Sydney club, were the top performers during the week
long event, winning top prizes in the International Racing Class
(IRC)1, IRC 2 and Cruising Classes, respectively.

Roberts, a regular racer in Phuket and Thailand, and his team Quantum
Racing won the King's Cup Regatta in 2005. He placed second in the
class last year.In his speech Roberts, acknowledged his team and
endorsed the hospitaility in Koh Samui and outstanding support and
coordination at the Koh Samui Regatta.

The Koh Samui Regatta, widely regarded as one of the best in the
region, offers a truly international event with participants from
Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Canada, Hong Kong, Italy, France,
Australia, New Zealand, The United States, and the United Kingdom.

AMAZED in Perth - Social Entrepreneurship

"Amazed" is the word that comes to mind as i sit in the Perth Airport
awaiting my flight back to Singapore and reflecting on the weekend at

A is for atmosphere. The atmosphere was supportive, encouraging, and
electric at the XL Entrepreneurial Life shift program in Perth. Awe
inspiring and awesome was the opportunity by one member looking for
house-sitter for her house and for another member looking for

Marilyn and her relationship with her coach David, awesome was the
team in Perth and the way they are collaborating to be the most

monetize even more value, and monetize measurable value, in a smooth
and simple manner?"

Shifting it back to you, in what ways can you assist member to
monetize value? Who can you nominate for awards in Australia for
entrepreneurship? For Social Entrepreneurship? Who do you want to work
with that will be win-win in 2008?

Inspring was Brad stepping up and sharing his opportunity knocks for
collaborating in real estate in Perth, inspiring was Jerrad who chose
to engage stillness and chose to engage the "observer" as he knows
what he needs to do and was not going to be tempted to get deviate
from plan, and inspiring was Chester who showed up, stepped up, and
gave back to us all during the weekend.

E is for enterprise and for energizing the enterprise through
enthusiam. For energy, i am thrilled to connect with the energy of
Anu, the awesome, natural, and undeniably "gifted" wealth creator.
Sharing her passion and purpose and her energy was a very special
experience for me in Perth. For Joe and his inspiring relationship
with his lovely wife. Joe for his energy and for willing to share and
enliven the spirit of holistic and dynamic healthy living. Energy is
for the support and leadership team of XL Perth - you know who you are
and i thank you for the awesome energy!

D is for divine and i am so thankful and grateful for the opportunity
to reconnect, reactivate and reclaim the mysteries of alchemy, to
share the appreciation and application of divine wisdom and divine
timing and to share the appreciation of divine beauty with members of
XL in Perth. Thank you for the gift, thank you for opportunity and
thank you for investing the time with me.

workshop in Kuala Lumpur focusing on nurturing leaders in the call
centre industry.

With specialist and experts in the various areas of leadership and
development of the call centre industry, it was a terrific proving
ground for sharing best practises and key management initiatives for
participants, speakers, and flip side personal.

Key distinctions on Leadership in the Call Centre Sector were:

1) clarity is power - be clear what you want and communicate it clearly

2) dynamic balance - offering value and looking for ways to leverage the value

3) approval and acknowledgement - most employees want to be
acknowledged - do your systems build in frequent, positive, and
effective feedback loops?

4) inspire through communication - IT Communities Coach Sean Tay
shared the importance of inspiration through communication and shared
some great tools to allow sme & multinationals to use technology like
facebook, video, and music to increase inspiring communication.

5) Intuition vrs Decision Making - Dr Stewart Cheifet, President,
National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Archives United
States of America and the Chairperson for the Second Day noted the
book "Blink" as an excellent resource to heighten awareness,
understanding and application of intuition in leadership.

Dr Cheifet also shared a key tip that Bill Gates shared with him in an
interview - "don't always tell me the good things, tell me the bad
things"

Overall it was a terrific two days! All of the participants agreed
that Malaysia prospects for call centre and other outsourcing
opportunities is improving and that opportunties for each individual
to step up their learning will lead to opportunities to step up their
earning potential.

I look forward to working with more Call Centres in Malaysia and am
optimistic that the tools and technologies in the continual shift

communication, productivity and profitability in Call Centres
throughout Malaysia.

Bali Tree Planting - Living Memorial

The day after the Entrepreneur Business School was a special day for me, as 20 plus members of XL from twelve countries embarked on a journey to the top of a hill in one of the poorest districts of Bali and proceeded to plant the first round of trees that will make up the Matthew Faid Living Memorial Forest.

Irene Miller of XL Results Foundation read a lovely poem from Matthew's wife Kathryn and Andy Steele and his team at PLANT- A-TREE-TODAY Foundation coordinated the activities for the day.

The living memorial, the Matthew Faid Forest, was made possible through the generous support of XL Members (including leaders such as Kevin, Gil, Roger and Renate), the Faid Family, and people from around the world who contributed to plant a tree in memory of Matthew.

Over 500 trees including fruit, rubber, and protective trees will be planted over the next few years and it will grow and be a tribute to the first XL Legacy Member, Matthew Faid.

The world premiere of Roger Hamilton’s transformational event called Your Life Your Legacy was warmly welcome by more than 1,000 entrepreneurs in London England on April 16 to 18th at Alexander Palace.

Hamilton masterfully weaved the audience, aptly segmented into the 5 regions representing the official colors of the Olympics – red, yellow, blue, black and green, though the TEN WAVES that are currently transforming entrepreneurship and social entrepreneurship around the world. .

The event was organized by Triumphant Events (www.triumphantevents.co.uk) in alliance with XL Results Foundation, the world largest entrepreneur network (www.resultsfoundation.com), and more than 60 affiliates and alliance partners in the UK, Europe, America and Asia Pacific.

In conversation with Daniel Priestly, co- founder of Triumphant Events, he shared that “he was incredibly pleased about the event and especially pleased about the way the team came together to ensure that the guests were treated to the world class event.” Priestly was referring to the forty plus team leaders, crew, and associates at Triumphant Events and XL that “showed up, stepped up, and gave back” as part of this premier event, YOUR LIFE YOUR LEGACY, and as part of their bigger purpose, mission and BIG VISION, the 20/20 Vision to spread the message of eradicating extreme poverty by 2020.

Hamilton shared that one wave that is making a huge difference in the world is the way that entrepreneurs are shifting their focus and that social entrepreneurship is key mantra of the day. The wave of social entrepreneurship is a wave that is capturing the imagination and creativity of business leaders around the world including the like of Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, and Richard Branson. Hamilton share specific, easy to apply strategies and introduced a program the Social Entrepreneur Accreditation Program or SEA Program that attracted more that 400 new social entrepreneurs and raised over GBP8,000 for the Hunger Project (www.thp.org).

Highlights of the two and half day program included a session where four local London entrepreneurs were brought to the stage by Hamilton, given some on the spot coaching and then connected with members of XL Results Foundation via internet LIVE Connection covering Malaysia, Singapore, Mexico, New Zealand, and Australia. One example was a FREE Trade coffee importer who was immediately connected with Li Lian in Malaysia for some possible coffee connection, Leon in the UK who is heading up extraordinary foods, and Carlos in Mexico.

The opportunities were outgoing from the UK and also incoming from the remote participants such as Jason Moriarty from Malaysia who is a strategic alliance partner with Virgin’s Richard Branson and Air Asia’s Tony Fernandes in a venture that will see Moriarty expand his YO Fitness centers in Tune Hotels (www.tunehotels.com) throughout Malaysia and Asia Pacific. It was amazing for all the guests, crew, and associates to witness that global connections can be established in a single moment and that businesses can shift in a split second and that perhaps some of our greatest opportunities are on the other side of the globe.

The message that Hamilton was able to demonstrate with this session was that we are presently experiencing a WAVE of financial, innovative, and enterprise shifts that includes the greatest transfer of wealth that the world has ever experienced. A specific example is Sheldon Adelson from Sands Casinos, Adelson’s decision to be a player in the casino industry in Macau about eight years ago has allowed him to ride this massive WAVE and has allowed him to be been major contributors to expanding the Macau Gambling Industry to its present status as the world’s largest casinos, even outdistancing Las Vegas. And all of this has happened since the turn of the millennium.

Utilizing terms like magical moments, critical moments, learning cycles, and applying the ancient wisdom of the ICHING, Hamilton’s program has embraced the concepts of yin/yang, opposites such as black/white and spring/autumn in his approach to sharing and disseminating information. She met a young rapper, Jeffery, a singer of inspiring rap, after the second day of the program while dining with some other participants. She then persuaded him to join her for the last day and through her determination, action, and seizing a Critical moment, she was able to get him to demonstrate his passion, talent and purpose to the 1000+ audience. In that critical moment, another member of the audience offered to book Jeffrey for an upcoming gig! By understanding and stepping up during a Critical Moment, she created attraction and possibly a new business enterprise for herself and her new business partner.

Hamilton left the stage, he shared his message that Your Life is Your Legacy. In this program, he shares his life, and he shares his legacy. He also invites you to share your life and share your legacy. Today’s entrepreneurs are the current day alchemists. Alchemy is the science of making something out of nothing and today’s entrepreneurs are alchemist and are the major agent of change in this world.

Good, Bad and Ugly of Paris to London

Flight on Singapore Airlines were full from Singapore to London last week, so I took a little detour through Paris to take the Eurostar train to London.

The GOOD
The eurostar experience was brilliant. 2 hours and 20 minutes from Paris to downtown London. It was smooth and simple, the service was terrific, the food was tasty and the experience was wonderful. The people I met on the train were engaging, friendly and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience (and that was after a twelve hour flight from Singapore)

Advice – book early as the eurostar was fully booked and while I wanted to get on an earlier train that was not possible.

The BAD
Immigration into Paris – our flight arrived at 730am and it appeared that the folks at the airport did not have a CLUE about service, welcoming visitors, and the logistics of processing a few aircraft. It simply felt that the folks at CDG airport were being put out, and actually found us passengers to be a nuisance. Does Paris not want tourist, visitors, people to stay and spend money? The CDG airport experience was so bad, that I had to laugh and giggle as the experience was surreal. Escalators were backed up, there was no room to exit the escalators, the directions to get to immigration were unclear, and people were squished together until, a few extra immigrations centers opened and the crowd were able to disburse into the airport.

Advice – have a good sense of humor when traveling in CDG airport, laugh and be grateful it is only a short visit.

The UGLY
Exchanging money at the Nord Train station where I transferred to get on the eurostar was an UGLY experience. I had 30GPB to exchange and the agent at the exchange booth offered me 30 EURO and then ran into a tirade about “not worth his while” and that for such an amount he was not interested. WOW, quite a surprise and probably one of rudest experiences that I have experienced traveling anywhere.

Advice – AVOID this money changer in Paris and use cash machines and ATM to withdraw money in Paris. I confirmed with a few people and most suggested using machines is much better as the rates are more accurate and the customer experience is much warmer.

Spiritual Teachings – The Tree

Roots that grow and ground into mother earth, a trunk that defies gravity and grows upwards, branches that stretch out and add horizontal, gravity defying grace, leaves that protect and represent life.

A tree will remove toxic CO2 gases from a human and will nurture with energizing, life giving oxygen.

A tree is divine, is enlightened and is just is being a tree, no ego, just being!

All enlightened masters have mentioned their divine relations with trees and many have experienced the moment of awakening in the presence of a tree.

Looking for some great counsel, sit next to a tree, and simply breath.

Seeking some compassion, hug a tree and breath in the nurturing air.

Life a little too busy, too chaotic, too exhausting, slow down, have a date with a tree and see what divine wisdome is shared with you.

Some have noticeable handicaps like wheel-chair bound Andrew, though through his sharing, courageous outlook, and willingness to shift, Andrew inspired us with his belief, courage and action. New Zealand All Black’s Tamati Elliston’s sharing from his father’s words on leadership highlighted the simplicity and impact that words can have – “stay humble” is great advice from one leader to another.

AWARENESS

The respect – disrespect duality dance popped up its head this weekend. On more than one occasion, I was got sharing distinctions and feelings about “not feeling respected” and even disrespected. Local Coach Ian, caught the slips and politely ask “can someone actually make you feel disrespected?” Touche and absolutely correct, no one can make you feel disrespected!

It is my choice to go to disrespect or respect and the feedback of others and how I choose to interpret it is my responsibility.

XL Pioneer Club - "Ask and It is Given"

XL - Hunger Project India

What was my biggest takeaway from the inaugural XL Pioneer Club?

For me, it was my experience with the Hunger Project. The Hunger Project in India is about Indians for India. The program is about empowering women, so that they can take the first step empower themselves and their village. It is about giving them a political voice in their constituencies. The intention is to empower 3,000 women leaders which will favorably impact 3 million people in the next three years.

The controversy of the name was discussed at length during the 12 day adventure through India, which saw our group of 60, including 14 wonderful children, travel through some of the wealth and riches of Mumbai, Delhi and Rajestan, through to the city of romance in Agra and the Taj Mahal, onto some of the poorer rural areas near Satna.

Hunger, as explained by our two alliance partner, Jim and Cathy, is not soley about physical hunger, it is in fact, about hunger for opportunities, hunger for a voice, and hunger for rights for food, clean water, education. This Hunger was clearly shared in the village around Satna and the surrounding communities that the inaugural Pioneer Club visited.

Physical hunger which one of our honorable guest, the minister of transportation, correctly noted, is something that india has comfortable surpassed at and around the turn of the century. In fact, the minister proudly stated that India has over two years supply of food in its reserves, two years of food stuff are stored, and india is beyond having to worry about hunger.

This lead to a healthy debate to having these foodstuffs delivered, logistics enhanced and to enable the poorest of the poor access to these foodstuffs.

The Hunger Projects Initiative, which is supported by the XL Results Foundation, as a component of the Social Entrepreneur Accreditation program (www.resultsfoundation.com) and in collabortion with the Clinton Global Initiative is about educating women about available resources, training women about stepping up, and assisting women leaders to allow their voice to be heard.

For XL, we use the mantra show up, step up, and give back. For the women in the villages, it is about access, access to food, access to clean water, access to education, and access to infrastructure that will connect their village to other villages so that trade, commerce and development can flourish.

In Esther Hicks wonderful book, "ASK AND IT IS GIVEN", one of Esther main message is to simply ask and it will happen. Esther along with Abraham brilliantly share the the power of intention, the power of words, and the power of attraction. In India, it dawned on me that a similar book could be written for women leaders though perhaps it would be called "DEMAND AND IT MIGHT HAPPEN"

When I heard the women leaders from the Team India Hunger Project urge the new batch of inspiring women to DEMAND improved access to water, to DEMAND local education and to DEMAND road access for the village. My mind, body, and inner voice immediately pulled back from this very powerful directive. How combative?, i thought to myself.

After years of studying words and in fact curiousily exploring, practising, and sharing the wisdom and application of "Word Medicine” as a real and practical tool of personal empowerment and transformation, it did not settle well with me for the leaders to be encouraging the new aspiring leaders to use such a word as DEMAND, especially with power and force that they were encouraging them to use.

I wondered what would happen if they employed Esther's principal and techniques of of “ASK and It Is Given" and whether this approach would be more effective in actually getting what they ask for.

As I listened and pondered my internal dialogue, I heard story after story of verbal abuse, sexual abuse, suppression, and torment that ladies leaders of this movement were faced with on a daily, weekly, and monthly.

The response to these newly empowered women was not always positive. In fact, quite often the male villages would respond to loud voices, the demands and the open confrontational with the only thing that they knew and that is violence. Violence was their core response to the challenge and fear that was being triggered in them.

Many men lashed out and the receipient of their violence were women. The dynamics fascinated me, as the women who were making demands, demands that they were willing to voice and demands that they knew would make a positive difference for the village, for the families, for the children, for them, and even for the men that they were now sending a sense of fear, alienation, and in some cases de-masculination of their male counterparts.

As I pondered the situation in the villages, something popped, and I wondered what in our lives, what in our western lives are we actually willing to demand?

Is there anything that we care about enough to actually step up and demand? Have we been so insensitive to our surrounding that we have become so acclimatized to the injustices of our societies that we no longer have the power, the drive, and VOICE to make demands? Demand of society, of our government of ourselves?

As I stepped back, and opened my eyes, I smiled and looked up and thanked my maker.

Thanked her for the learning, thanked her for the lesson and thanked her for the opportunity to reconnect with a beautiful work – a WORD that can DEMAND me to step up, DEMAND me to speak up and DEMAND me to make a difference, especially when DEMANDING is the right action to take!

As for our teachers in the villages of Satna, the women are finding their voice and USING IT. They are demanding change and they are experiencing some of the benefits and costs to change. Change will continue and i have a feeling that a louder voice by women will lead to positive changes in rural india. As they move forward, they will include men in the conversation, they will walk a middle road, and they will make strides to improve the quality of life for all indians in rurual areas, men, women and childre.

From my short experience in Satna, i am optimistic and it left me wondering, are we witnessing the end of the caste system in India?

Kudo's #1 - Our flight from Mumbai to Singapore on Monday SQ423 was delayed due to congestion on the runaway, within minutes the pilot was on the public announcing system to inform passengers of the slight delay. After a few minutes, we were moving again and the pilot was back on the microphone with a polite apology and additional information about our flight time and expected arrival time. Contrast this to earlier in the week and I was in Delhi traveling on a domestic plan. The flight from Delhi to Poona exposed me to a eye opening experience. Unexpected fog in Delhi led to delays in flights and the departure terminal was very busy and most of us were directed to sit on the floor. Our Jet Value flight was boarded about 20 minutes late and then the real wait was to start. After 45 minutes sitting on the plane, some passenger started to ask what was going on with the flight, we were getting rather hot and the lack of water, information, and increasing temperature in the cabin started to heat up passengers. Another 30 minutes and the pilot informed us that our flight was delayed, big surprise, and that we would be leaving in 15 minutes. An hour later, he came back on line to inform us that we would be leaving shortly. In the end, the flight ended up taking off 150 minutes late and many of the passengers spent the final 30 minutes frantically rearranging or cancelling their scheduled meetings from the aircraft. Key KUDOS – Proactive Communication leads to Superior Service

KUDOS #2 – congratulations to Singapore Airlines for rectifying very poor and confusing service from their ground support team at the Celebration Lounge at Mumbai Airport. Prior to my flight from Mumbai to Singapore on February 11th, the staff at the lounge refused to acknowledge or even look at my ticket for admittance into the lounge reserved for SIA Gold Alliance members. With three hours to spend at the airport I was looking forward to getting a couple of hours of emails, reports, and updates completed as part of the time in Mumbai. The disinterest of the ground personal and total lack of consideration led me to drafting up a complaint note to Singapore airlines. To my very pleasant surprise, on February 18th and once again returning from Singapore from Mumbai following the completion of the Life Shift weekend for Entrepreneurs, the process at the Celebration Lounge had been corrected and invitation cards were issued as checked in a Singapore Airlines counter in Mumbai. WOW – coincident or is Singapore Airlines that proactive in responding the complaints! I will go along with the proactive behavior at Singapore Airlines and thank them for their awesome service!

Spirit of Enterprise

Congratulations to Bryan, Founder of 21st Century Security, for resonating with the imagination and generosity of life members with a call to action to support and align support for educating young people in the Philippines. As a result of the awesome support of life members, the foundation work of Bryan and his bride Carmelita will be able to support 8 young people in the Philippines.

Economics Outlook for 2008 - A Breakfast Perspective

Breakfast with Benjamin Yeo, Strategist with UBS Singapore

The Singapore Venture Capital Association launched the 2008 year with a robust, statistic approach to macro-trends to take note of for the upcoming twelve months.

Mr Yeo’s five key themes were
1) Avoid the USA at the moment as continued clearing of the subprime markets will have suppress positive price action in the USA
2) GO BIG or go home, quality vrs small cap and Yeo sees a continued flight to quality in investments
3) Look for structural plays in Asia Pacific, continued infrastructure spending and investment will keep the markets well supported
4) Continued trend to global outsourcing and opportunities to continue to benefit from outsourcing plays
5) Excess liquidity in China will continue and China will continue to invest globally – expect commodities such as wheat to be weak, corn to be strong, and oil stable.

Yeo mentioned that monetary policy in the US will likely remain loose and that a 50% bp cut in Fed Rates is expected in very soon.

What does this mean to me?

It was my first SVCA meeting in five years and first economic briefly since my bond trading days around the same time. As I move back into the markets a greater sensitivity about interest rates, macro economics and global trends is important as one of the factors that I MUST consider as my interest and activity in deal making, fund raising, and real estate investment GROWS in 2008.

I did find Mr Yeo’s market laggard positioning for Malaysia, as an interesting note, as it is Malaysia that I most recently found some very attractive real estate investment opportunities and committed both personal and professional funds into this market. I will remain and look to add to this contrarian position as I find Malaysia’s offering of cash flow positive real estate investments, opportunities to enter at wholesale pricing and exit at retail, improving regulations toward foreign investors, natural resources, net exporter position, and attractiveness of Malaysia as second home destination all favor increased interest in Malaysia as a target for medium to longer term investments with a stable and attractive outlook for the currency exposure. 5 Things Cambodia Taught Me in 2008

Rock Your Life – Cambodia

Met up with Mike Handcock, founder of Rock Your Life, in Siem Reap this week to hear more about his trip from Siem Reap to Penan Pehn on a eight day trail of discovery, learning, and assisting people in Cambodia. Mike’s will lead a group of social entrepreneurs on an eight day adventure tour which will include visits to historical sites such as Angkor Wat, the torture chambers of Pol Pot, as well as visit to orphanages and schools.

In our discussion, we noticed the following changes in Siem Reap over the past twenty four months

5) The airport is clean, efficient and effective – on the spot visa were processed without fuss and the queues through immigration moved smoothly and swiftly. Beware the incoming visa is US$22 while the departure visa is US$25

4) The city is the city of MORE - More hotels, more restaurants, more internet cafes, more ATM machines, and more tourists. Cambodia just celebrated 2007 as a year of international travel and surpassed there target of 2 million visitors to Cambodia.

3) Upbeat and a sense of renewal – construction is everywhere and, while the dust, does making walking a little uncomfortable, transportation is all around with most motor bike drivers willing to take you around the city for S$1 to S$2. There is a sense of optimism, especially in the 20 something crowd that we met.

2) Inspiring Young Entrepreneurs – it was great to meet the guys from Green Elephant – they really understand about the importance of TEAM – Led by the charismatic tour leader Mr V or Vivit (sounds like V Pitt and he likes to joke that he is Brad Pitt’s Cambodian brother). The Green Elephant team conducts guided tours throughout Cambodia and into Thailand and Laos. We had the opportunity to meet and drink with the team and were amazed at their sense of team – there was the ideas guy, the tour guys, the finance guy and the operations guy – WOW! I was impressed by their sense of team and their wisdom in allowing each member to play to their strengths and interests. Many MNC could learn from Green Elephant – for guided tours by folks that are proud to be Cambodians providing services to foreigners. To hear more from Mike about the trip, please have a listen.

1) Make A Difference – everywhere we went, there was a sense that we can make a difference, that you can make a difference, and I can make a difference. It was a wonderful feeling that a small gesture, gift, donation actually appeared to make a difference. That is a feeling that I hope the people of Cambodia can embrace and nurture as economic growth and development continues in this land where darkness lived just forty years ago.

Mental Toughness to the Summit

MENTAL TOUGHNESS TO THE SUMMIT

Famed American football coach Vince Lombardi bellowed that “Mental toughness is essential to success. You never win a game unless you beat the guy in front of you. The score on the board doesn't mean a thing. That's for the fans. You've got to win the war with the man in front of you. You've got to get your man."
Can you imagine what it takes to the top of game, your profession, your company, your industry, your niche? What does it take? Mental toughness is definitely one of the keys suggest Denis Gianoutsos of Maximum Stretch Ltd., a New Zealand based leadership and executive coaching organization.

According to the Journal of Applied Sports Psychology, 2002, mental toughness is having the natural or developed psychological edge that enables you to
– ‘Cope - generally cope better than your opponents with the many demands such as training, lifestyle and head to head competition that are placed on world class top performers.
– Consistency - specifically, to be more CONSISTENT and better than your opponents in remaining determined, focused, confident, and in control under pressure’ Gianoutsos adds that world class athletes like Tiger Woods, Vijay Singh, and Ernie Els have their counterparts in the workplace such as Richard Branson, Bill Gates, and Warren Buffet.

One major difference is that athletes have a specific, more structured schedule, to attend to while entrepreneurs or corporate leaders have a schedule that tends to be 24/7 hour, 365 days a year, that can span not only five or ten years, an average for professional athletes, but for two, three or four decades.

The toll on the corporate athlete is often more extreme than the sports athlete and many of these corporate athletes do not have the support, infrastructure or resources to perform at their peak levels, especially the middle level executives looking to make it to the top.

Research from the Journal of Applied Sports Psychology, suggest that the four key components that make up Mental Toughness are:

Self Belief – leading entrepreneurs and top athletes must display an unshakable belief in their ability to achieve their competition goals. They have unique qualities and abilities that make you better than their opponents. On belief Lombardi bellowed "If you believe in yourself and have the courage, the determination, the dedication, the competitive drive and if you are willing to sacrifice the little things in life and pay the price for the things that are worthwhile, it can be done."

Motivation – top performers have an ability to bounce back from performance or market set backs with an increased determination to succeed. Corporate Athlete Ray Kroc shares numerous stories in his autobiography Grinding it Out of his trials and tribulations in building, stretching, and systemizing the McDonalds winning formula from his mid 50’s when he finally started to get things working for him in business. He faced many failures throughout his careers as a sales person and it was self belief and self motivation that saw him through the difficult times. Kroc is a classic example of an ordinary man, who thanks to an insatiable desire and internalised motivation to succeed, went on to do extraordinary things and changed the way the world ate forever.

Focus – Need an visual image of focus and intensity? Close your eyes and imagine watching Tiger Woods, wearing his red sweater, on the 18th Hole with a one stroke lead at the British Open

That is focus and intensity personified. World class performers remain fully focused on the task that they face, are not distracted by others, and have an amazing ability to turn Focus on and off as required.

Handling Pressure – the final component of mental toughness is that top performers love to let it all hang out. They thrive on pressure and they often raise to the occasion. Basketball phenom, Michael Jordan relished the opportunity to take the last shot of the game and throughout his career he won more than 2/3rds of the games with his last second heroics. Jordan shares that “I have missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I have lost almost 300 games. On 26 occasions I have been entrusted to take the game winning shot... and missed. And I have failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why... I succeed. To make it to the top, a leader must be willing to experience the valleys to enjoy the peaks!

According to William Reed, a 7th-dan black belt in Aikido, author and renowned speaker (www.agili.jp), two other key concepts come it play with Mental Toughness and high-level performance, the concepts of self-esteem and self-confidence.

According to Reed, self-confidence is the trust we have in ourselves to deliver in specific circumstances. Self-confidence is often task specific and is more easily and immediately influenced by external conditions. The key to success is that self-confidence is not self-conscious, but rather focused on process and results.

Self-esteem, Reed adds, is how we value ourselves as human beings and is greatly influenced by our internal dialogue. Self-esteem comes from your self-talk and self-image. It is the determining factor in how we interpret our experiences, and the steering mechanism for our success.

Taken all together, Mental Toughness, self esteem and self confidence will equip today’s corporate and sports athletes with the psychological wiring to make it to the top – whether they sink or miss that final putt on the 18th hole, they will remain in the game and with a little luck they will reach the Summit!

It was a pleasure and thrill to be in Manchester and share some tips and deal making coaching with the participants in the Dine and Deal with Dave program. This initiative was spearheaded and launched in Christchurch earlier this year along with my dear friend Matthew Faid and supported by super supporter Alika Rai.

Can three stars successful work together? Judging by the synergy of persuasive skills of Harun, the intentionality of well intentioned Naomi, and the internet marketing flair of the “arse hole” marketer Mr F U , Colin Fu, the three stars created some tremendous attraction this weekend for Naomi’s weekend in January as well as raising awareness for the recent Bangladeshi floods by rallying donations for the construction of two houses and several water pumps - Awesome!

WOW – what a questions, unfortunately time did run out during the session so i am pleased to answer the question here!

My three top learnings are

#3) Power of Intention - What you focus on will materialize, usually along with the opposite so that you can gain an amazing perspective, awareness, and experience of the duality dance.

#2) The Magic of Now - Let each experience be a discovery, allow the emotions to be triggered and allow yourself the space to experience life to the fullest! Live in the moment – live with gratitude and be aware that all experiences are triggers to allow us to experience the yin-yang of life.

What is the state of social entrepreneurship in Malaysia?

Following an inspiring lunch, Dave met with 30++ social entrepreneurs for the XL
Entrepreneur Life Shift program in KL.

A key question that I was asked was that set the tone for the weekend was: If Entrepreneurs are going to be the major shift agent for the planet, to en-lighten the burdens of the past, to shift awareness from scarcity to abundance, and to really make a positive contribution in terms of the four main areas of
1) mother earth and the environment, 2) health and wellness, 3) education, and
4) peace & prosperity,

How is Malaysia doing and can I give any specific examples? (nice question!)
So to answer this question, I decided to borrow a phrase from one of my mentors and friends Paul Dunn and answer the question starting out with a few WOWs!

WOW # 1 – Environment - Country managers Steven & Jackie Khong along with LiLian have arranged a XL Malaysia Eco Adventure Camp for friends, families and associates to learn more about the eco-systems and to experience some camping adventures. The dates are 15-16 of December and for more details contact Malaysia@resultsfoundation.com – a very nice way to learn about mother earth!

WOW # 2 – Health & Wellness - with over seventeen years experience in the health and wellness industry, Jason has launched the first women’s only fitness centers in Malaysia. Three have been launched and this has caught the eye of a leading hotel chain who would like to get involved with Jason and his team. Deal Maker Sean has often to work with Jason and super supported LiLian to move the adventure forward. Investors are welcome and this good has global potential. Right next to Jason is Raul, with nine years experience in the fitness industry and he is looking to launch holistic centers and is busy building his team for a launch in 2008.

WOW # 3 – Education – what does an architect with a passion for learning do when he has decided to move from the architecture industry? He builds innovative, creative, board games that allows kids to find the magic in spelling, counting, and learning foreign languages. Hock is the man’s name and he is an award winning game maker! Looking to expand his ideas globally, Hock is looking to assemble a team that work together and make his vision of kids playing his game in 80++ countries a reality.

WOW #4 – Peace and Prosperity – we had another architect in the room and his name is Wong and he has a brilliant reputation, in fact he is now lecturing about architecture at the University of Malaysia. Wong was accompanied by his dynamic wife Lee Hwa and their two lovely daughters in the room for the weekend. With homes in KL and in Sydney, Wong is now teaching at the University of Malaysia and was “curious” about how we might start sharing about social entrepreneurship in the universities! His is convinced the education is part of the solution and that cross border sharing and social entrepreneurial initiatives are a key component. By sharing with his wife and his children and by encouraging change in the establishment, I feel that Wong has earned my WOW award for nurturing and developing peace and prosperity.

In a tie with the Peace & Property WOW #4b, I am pleased to introduce one of Malaysia leading female story tellers and famed blogger Sis Zabrina! With over 30,000 visitors to her website and representing more than 30 nations, Sis Zabrina at http://wisdomthruwords.blogspot.com/2007/06/story-of-dog-called-faith.html is sharing inspiring stories on her blog and doing a wonderful service as she is sharing a platform for inspiration, discussion, and dialogue. As proud muslim, who is a leaders, and who is a social entrepreneur, Zabrina is making a difference through her healing and inspiring words! She is WoW!

It was a brilliant weekend in Malaysia and I left very inspired by the brilliance that shone after the Entrepreneur Life Shift program in KL!

Melbourne - XL Entrepreneur Life Shift

Let’s review the Melbourne Entrepreneur Life Shift program from a perspective of the wealth dance.

For me the wealth dance is a dance where we offer value to others and when we have delivered value, we then look to leverage that value.
In wealth dynamics, value is often observed through the application, awareness and utilization of innovation particularly by our friends who are the mechanics, creators and stars value or timing which is often applied by our friends the deal makers, traders and accumulators.

Leverage is brilliantly demonstrated either by systems and structured as implemented by our metal, wintery friends such as the mechanics, lords and accumulators or through magnification as illustrated by our summery pals the supporters, stars and deal makers.

I would like to acknowledge all the wonderful folks who made the trip to Melbourne for the shift weekend, we had folks from Adelaide, Sydney, Perth and the Coast, Sunshine and Gold! Many thanks also to local support team of Jeanette X 2, Melissa, Cicara, Susan, Tony and Tom.

In terms of the Wealth Dance, I would like to acknowledge three folks who delivered some terrific value and who also leveraged the value brilliantly (drum roll please….)

#3 – all the way from the UK to launch her book, The Sacred Quest, Louise did not say much during the weekend though when she did share, her popularity and attraction increased. Louise has recently downloaded some amazing insights and distinctions about the cosmic shifts occurring on earth and throughout the galaxies will make this lady a household name in the coming months and years.

#2 Peter G and his lovely wife Evdoxia – dynamic couple with Peter as the full on creator and Evdoxia as the accumulator/lord of the family demonstrated a playful and loving dynamic throughout the weekend. Peter with his get things started spring energy and Evdoxia with her respectful, engaging, and “sure go-ahead Peter position” allowed many of us to see how family dynamics can work brilliantly.

#1 Kate – back after a eighteen month hiatus from XL , during which time she and her hubby doubled the size of her family from two to four with the births of her two lovely children. Kate’s willingness to show up, step up, and give back was greatly appreciated in the room and led to numerous opportunities for Kate to turn opportunity into abundance. What specifically did she do?

SHOW UP - Even though Kate is already one of Australia’s top business coaches, during each one of the buddy coaching exercises she stayed with the task assigned and delivered incredible value to her coachees!

STEP UP – during the open sessions for raising issues, questions, and queries, she asked questions and offered brilliant examples and personal stories to allow all of us to learn and share in the collective wisdom in the room.

GIVE BACK – Kate willingness to shift into vulnerability, while gingerly dodging the ego trap, allowed us all to grow, learn and discover lessons from actual coaching experience. Her give back and willingness to meet up with XL Members was noticed by many.

Honorable mention goes to some life members who did some marvelous work on adding value would be RICHARD – thank you, thank you, thank you for stepping up, for arranging the venue for Saturday night, for the special session, and for the special gift – U R Brilliant! And Karm, the wealth dynamics master practitioner for real estate for asking about Stepping Up and for the follow up, and to Grant for combining the enterprise with a social purpose that flows.
